    Objective

To compare the efficacy differences between traditional decoction and formula granules of different ratios of Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma)-Wuzhuyu(Evodiae Fructus).

    Methods

Various typical efficacy indicators were used for different ratios of Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma)-Wuzhuyu(Evodiae Fructus)in separate comparative experiments. Zuojin Pill(左归丸)group[Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma);Wuzhuyu(Evodiae Fructus)=6∶1]used an anhydrous ethanol-induced gastric ulcer experiment to measure the effectiveness in inhibiting gastric ulcers and gastric acid secretion of rats. Blood superoxide dismutase(SOD)and malondialdehyde(MDA)were analyzed. The Ganlu Powder(甘露散)group[Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma):Wuzhuyu(Evodiae Fructus)=2∶1]used dry yeast-induced hyperthermia in rats to determine the antipyretic efficacy. The Zhuyu Pill(茱萸丸)group[Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma):Wuzhuyu(Evodiae Fructus)=1∶1]used a small intestinal propulsion experiment in mice to determine the antidiarrheal efficacy. The Reverse Zuojin Pill(反左金丸)group[Huanglian(Coptidis Rhizoma):Wuzhuyu(Evodiae Fructus)=1∶6]used acetic acid-induced writhing in mice to determine the analgesic efficacy.

    Results

Both formulations in the Zuojin Pill group effectively inhibited gastric ulcers of the rats but were unable to inhibit gastric acid secretion, showing no significant difference between the two(P>0.05). Both formulations in the Ganlu Powder group effectively reduced fever of rats, with significant differences between the formula granule group and the traditional decoction group(P<0.05). Both formulations in the Zhuyu Pill group alleviated mouse diarrhea symptoms, showing significance compared to the formula granule group(P<0.05). Both formulations in the Reverse Zuojin Pill group alleviated mouse pain sensation, with no significant difference between the two(P>0.05).

    Conclusion

When Zuojin Pill is used to treat gastric ulcers, the efficacy of the traditional decoction is equivalent to the formula granules. For Ganlu Powder in treating fever, the formula granules are superior to the traditional decoction. When Zhuyu Pill is used for treating diarrhea, the efficacy of the traditional decoction is superior to the formula granules. In the case of Reverse Zuojin Pill for analgesia, the efficacy of the traditional decoction is equivalent to the formula granules.

It is to summarize Professor GAO Shuzhong's clinical experience in the treatment of epilepsy. Professor GAO emphasizes the holistic concept and systematic treatment, believing that the basic pathogenesis of epilepsy is the imbalance of Qi,obstruction of the brain orifice, and disorder of the spirit, not solely caused by phlegm, blood stasis and other turbidity. He also emphasizes the importance of the neck-pass. Professor GAO advocates for equal emphasis on regulating Qi and spirit, dredging the neck-pass and opening up the brain orifice, nurturing and enlightening the spirit. Internal and external therapy, acupuncture and medication are always advocated. The external therapy includes GAO's method of dredging pass, the group of acupoints for regulating the spirit and umbilical moxibustion,as well as emergency external treatment. The internal treatment is mainly oral Chinese medicine based on Chaihu Guizhi Decoction(柴胡桂枝汤)and Chaihu Jia Longgu Muli Decoction(柴胡加龙骨牡蛎汤). Characteristic syndrome differentiation and compatibility approaches of opening depression, unblocking collaterals, removing blood stasis, and resolving phlegm have been formed.

Banmao(Mylabris)is a well-known animal Chinese medicine in China, which has the effect of breaking blood and eliminating blood stasis, dispersing knots and eliminating mass, and attacking toxin and eroding sores, and is widely used to disperse blood stasis and eliminate carbuncles. Because of its violent toxicity,it often needs to be processed to reduce toxicity and improve the safety of medication. As early as in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the processing methods of Banmao(Mylabris),such as net preparation and firing method, were recorded, and later a variety of processing methods such as rice frying,stir-frying and vinegar boiling were gradually developed. Modern studies have found that the main components of Banmao(Mylabris)are terpenoids and their derivatives, metal elements, fatty acids, fatty compounds, amino acid compounds and so on,which have antitumor,anti-fibrotic,cardiotonic,antiviral,anticoagulant,immune enhancement and other pharmacological effects. In this paper,it reviewed Chinese medical books and related Chinese and foreign materials and literature, and discussed the historical evolution, chemical composition and pharmacological effects of Banmao(Mylabris),in order to provide reference for the related research of Banmao(Mylabris).
