Current IssueThis paper elaborates on the theoretical connotations of Professor Zhang Boli's "Dampness-Turbidity-Phlegm-Fluid Retention Diseases". These disorders often arise from modern lifestyle changes that cause dysfunction in spleen transportation, impaired regulation of the Triple Burner (Sanjiao), and obstacles in lipid metabolism, leading to abnormal body fluid metabolism. Given that dampness, turbidity, phlegm, and fluid retention often intertwine and are difficult to resolve, simply differentiating a single pathogen is insufficient for guiding complex clinical practice. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the nuanced pathological mechanisms where multiple factors intersect. This study focuses on elucidating four complex pathological patterns: the coexistence of dryness and dampness, the intermingling of clear and turbid, the simultaneous pathology of blood and water, and the divergent transformation of qi and fluids. For the coexistence of dryness and dampness, treatment should prioritize nourishing Yin and moistening dryness without aggravating dampness, while resolving phlegm and drying dampness without damaging Yin. In cases of intermingling of clear and turbid, simultaneous ascending of the clear and descending of the turbid is essential. For blood-water co-pathology, therapeutic strategies should follow the principle of "harmonizing with warm-natured medicinals." In scenarios of divergent Qi-fluid transformation, methods to fortify the spleen and uplift Yang are warranted. This study refines the theoretical framework of these disorders, revealing the laws governing their complex pathogenesis, and provides novel insights for the precise diagnosis and treatment of related refractory diseases.
To investigate the antidepressant effects of Zhizi Chi Decoction (ZZCD) on depression-like behaviors induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in rats and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.
Depression- and anxiety- like behaviors were evaluated using the sucrose preference test (SPT), open field test (OFT), and elevated plus maze (EPM). Microglial activation and inflammatory mediators were assessed by immunofluorescence, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), and Western blot. Levels of kynurenic acid (KYNA), quinolinic acid (QA), and oxidative stress markers were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and biochemical kits. In addition, QA-treated BV-2 microglial cells were employed to validate the cellular mechanisms. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) analysis was performed to characterize the chemical profile of ZZCD.
ZZCD significantly improved depression- and anxiety- like behaviors in CUMS rats, suppressed M1-type activation and promoted M2 polarization of microglia, corrected the imbalance of KYNA/QA, and alleviated oxidative stress by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) while enhancing superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities. Moreover, ZZCD inhibited the NF-κB pathway and activated ERK/CREB signaling in both hippocampal tissues and BV-2 cells, accompanied by upregulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and synaptic plasticity-related proteins, including postsynaptic density protein 95 (PSD95) and synaptophysin.
ZZCD exerts antidepressant effects through multi-target mechanisms, including regulation of microglial activation, kynurenine pathway balance, oxidative stress reduction, and ERK/CREB pathway activation, which may contribute to the restoration of synaptic plasticity. These findings provide experimental evidence supporting the potential of ZZCD as a traditional Chinese medicine-based intervention for depression.
To observe the efficacy and safety of Huangrong Wuren Paste in the treatment of slow transit constipation.
In the pharmacodynamic study, 36 mice were randomly divided into blank group, model group, lactulose group (10 mg/kg), Huangrong Wuren Paste low (2 515 mg/kg), medium (5 030 mg/kg), high (10 060 mg/kg) dose groups, 6 mice in each group, half male and half female. The constipation model was prepared by oral gavage of loperamide hydrochloride at 10mg/kg in all groups except the blank group. The blank group was given equal volume of saline once a day for 14 days. After the model was built, Huangrong Wuren Paste was given for treatment once a day for 14 days. Observe the general state of the mice, the time of first melena excretion, the number and moisture content of faeces, and the intestinal moisture content. Toxicological studies were divided into Acute Oral Toxicity Test, Bacterial Reverse Mutation Assay, Mammalian Erythrocyte Micronucleus Test and Spermatogonia Chromosome Aberration Assay. Observe the corresponding indicators.
①Compared with lactulose group, the melena excretion time of mice in low, all groups of Huangrong Wuren Paste was significantly shortened, and the time was shortened with the increase of the concentration of Huangrong Wuren Paste. ②Compared with both model group and lactulose group, the propellant rate of carbon powder in Huangrong Wuren Paste high-dose group was significantly increased (P < 0. 05).③Compared with model group, the intestinal moisture content in high-dose Huangrong Wuren Paste group was significantly increased (P <0. 01). ④Under the toxicological studies, the mice were generally in good condition, and there were no signs of poisoning and death. After the dissection, there were no signs of lesions in the organs. The number of revertant colonies for strain TA1535 was less than three times that of the untreated control group, the number of revertant colonies for the remaining strains was less than twice that of untreated control group. the incidence of bone marrow PCE micronucleus did not increase and the spermatogonial cells did not exhibit any aberrant reactions.
Huangrong Wuren Paste has obvious curative effect and high safety on slow transit constipation, with no reproductive toxicity.
To explore the intervention effect of Danggui Shaoyao Powder on the Nrf2/SLC7A11/Gpx4 pathway and oxidative stress injury in the kidneys of juvenile rats with nephrotic syndrome (PNS).
4-week-old SD rats were randomly divided into six groups: CON group, MOD group, KDS group, DSS group, COM group and ANT group. Except for the CON group, in each group, the nephrotic syndrome model was established by intravenous injection of doxorubicin at regular intervals through the tail vein. After modeling, each group was intervened with the corresponding drug. The combined group was given the Danggui Shaoyao Powder combined with candesartan regimen. The drug intervention lasted for 4 weeks. At the 4th week, the 24-hour urine protein quantification (24 hUTP) of the rats was detected by the Coomassie brilliant blue method, the serum albumin (ALB), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and creatinine (CREA) of the rats were detected by the biochemical method, and the reactive oxygen species (ROS), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the renal tissue of the rats were detected by ELISA, and the levels of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), and iron ions (Fe2 +) were detected by immunofluorescence. The related factors of the Nrf2/SLC7A11/Gpx4 pathway in the kidneys of the rats were detected by Western blot method.
After 4 weeks of intervention, compared with the CON group, the 24 h UTP level was increased and the ALB level was decreased in the MOD group; the levels of ROS, MDA, 8-OHdG and Fe2+of oxidative stress indicators were elevated, while SOD and GSH levels declined, and the expressions of Nrf2, SLC7A11 and Gpx4 were significantly downregulated, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Compared with the MOD group, all above indexes were markedly improved in KDS, DSS and COM groups (P <0.05). The improvement in the COM group was superior to that in DSS and KDS groups (P <0.05). After intervention with the blocker ML385, the protective efficacy of Danggui Shaoyao Powder was obviously abolished in the ANT group, and there was significant difference compared with the DSS group (P <0.05). No obvious changes of BUN and CREA were observed among all groups (P > 0.05).
Danggui Shaoyao Powder can regulate the Nrf2/SLC7A11/Gpx4 pathway in the kidneys of juvenile rats with nephrotic syndrome, alleviate oxidative stress damage, and exert a protective effect on their kidneys.
Diabetes mellitus erectile dysfunction (DMED) , as a common complication of diabetes mellitus, has become a non-negligible health problem for male diabetic patients due to its complex pathogenesis and protracted, refractory course. Based on the "dryness-heat and stagnation" theory, this paper holds that the core pathogenesis of this disease is "damage to yin caused by drynessheat, failure of qi and body fluid to disperse, and loss of function of zongjin (penile erectile tissues)", and the disease can be divided into three stages: firstly, yin deficiency with dryness-heat injures zongjin internally, which mediates the onset of the disease; secondly, blockage of Xuanfu and stagnation of collaterals lead to the failure of qi and body fluid to disperse, accelerating the progression of the disease; thirdly, deficiency of healthy qi and lingering pathogens, along with the intermingling of deficiency and stasis, affect the prognosis of the disease. In treatment, the pathogenesis must be strictly adhered to: for the early stage of DMED, the treatment focuses on clearing heat and moistening dryness, nourishing yin and moistening zongjin to address the root cause, and the modified Baihu decoction combined with Zengye decoction is selected; for the middle stage of DMED, the therapy aims at opening Xuanfu and dredging collaterals, dispersing qi and body fluid to restore the function of zongjin, and the modified Liuwei Dihuang decoction combined with Shengjiang powder is used; for the late stage of DMED, the treatment emphasizes benefiting qi and activating blood circulation, and adopts the combination of unblocking and tonifying to consolidate the root, with the modified self-formulated Fuyuan Qiwei decoction. Throughout the entire treatment process, the core therapeutic principles of "clearing, dispersing, dredging, and tonifying" are implemented, and this study is expected to provide a new perspective and reference for the syndrome differentiation and treatment of DMED with traditional Chinese medicine.
Professor Wu Yaonan has been engaged in clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine for over 40 years and has accumulated extensive experience in medicinal application, demonstrating particular ingenuity in the treatment of spleen-stomach disorders. This article systematically reviews Professor Wu's medical records in the clinical diagnosis and treatment of spleen-stomach diseases, summarizes his distinctive medicinal experience in pattern differentiation and treatment of these conditions, and categorizes his commonly used characteristic herbs according to their main effects into four groups: clearing heat, promoting diuresis, and stopping diarrhea (Bidens pilosa, Acalypha australis, Pteris multifida) ; detoxifying, activating blood circulation, and dissipating nodules (Actinidia arguta roots, Salvia chinensis, Zanthoxylum nitidum, Rostellularia procumbens) ; soothing the liver, regulating qi, and relieving depression (Akebia quinata, Hypericum sampsonii) ; and promoting tissue regeneration, healing sores, and alleviating pain (Membrana follicularis ovi) . The usage and precautions for each medicinal are also summarized.
To analyze the effects of electroacupuncture at different frequencies on the tracheal intubation stress response and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in patients undergoing spinal surgery under general anesthesia.
A total of 168 patients who underwent spinal surgery under general anesthesia at the Seventh People's Hospital of Shanghai from September 2024 to February 2025 were selected. These patients were randomly divided into the control group (Group C), the low-frequency electroacupuncture group (Group L), and the high-frequency electroacupuncture group (Group H) using a random number table, with 56 patients in each group. The changes in hemodynamic parameters and serum stress hormone levels before and after tracheal intubation were compared among the three groups, and the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) at 6 hours and 24 hours after surgery was recorded.
Compared with group C, the heart rate (HR) and mean arterial pressure (MAP) in group L significantly decreased at T2 to T4 (P <0.05) ; compared with group L, the HR and MAP in group H significantly decreased at T2 to T4 (P < 0.05). Compared with group C, the serum levels of epinephrine (E), norepinephrine (NE), and cortisol (Cor) in group L significantly decreased at T4 and T5 (P <0.05) ; compared with group L, the serum levels of E, NE, and Cor in group H significantly decreased at T4 and T5 (P < 0. 05). The incidence of PONV in group L and group H at 6 hours and 24 hours was significantly lower than that in group C (P <0.05), but there was no statistically significant difference between group L and group H (P >0.05).
EA can effectively reduce the stress response of intubation in general anesthesia patients undergoing spine surgery and reduce the incidence of postoperative PONV. Among them, 100 Hz EA has a better effect in stabilizing hemodynamics and inhibiting the release of stress hormones, while 2 Hz low frequency EA has a comparable antiPONV effect with 100 Hz EA.
To explore the clinical efficacy of He's Santong acupuncture method in the treatment of tinnitus with hearing loss.
The 100 patients who were brought to our hospital between March 2023 and March 2025 with tinnitus and hearing loss were split into two groups at random: the control group (50 cases, 1 case excluded) and the intervention group (50 cases, 1 case excluded). The control group was treated with routine acupuncture and moxibustion, and the intervention group was treated with He's santong acupuncture method. Both groups were treated for 3 weeks. The clinical efficacy, tinnitus evaluation questionnaire (TEQ) score, tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) score, tinnitus visual analogue scale (VAS) score, average threshold of air permeability hearing, pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) score, hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS) score, and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.
Following treatment, the control group's overall effective rate was 67.35% (33/49) and the intervention group's was 87.76% (43/49). The intervention group outperformed the control group in terms of overall effectiveness (P < 0.05). Treatment resulted in decreased scores for TEQ, THI, VAS, PSQI, HADS, and average threshold of air permeability hearing in both groups (P < 0.05), with the intervention group outperforming the control group (P < 0.05).
He's Santong method of acupuncture has a significant clinical effect in the treatment of tinnitus with hearing loss. It can significantly improve the patient's tinnitus symptoms, hearing level, sleep quality and anxiety and depression, and has high safety. It is suitable for application and promotion in clinical practice.
To evaluate the clinical efficacy of acupuncture combined with electroacupuncture in the treatment of early to mid-stage osteoarthritis of the knee based on the theory of 'Shaoyang Governing the Bone'.
A total of 102 patients with early to mid-stage knee osteoarthritis (KOA) admitted to Sichuan Orthopedic Hospital from August 2022 to August 2024 were enrolled and randomly assigned to the observation group (n = 50) or the control group (n = 52). All patients received basic treatment and specific exercise training. In the control group, early-stage patients were treated with meloxicam tablets and glucosamine hydrochloride capsules, while mid-stage patients additionally received intra-articular sodium hyaluronate injection. On the basis of the control regimen, patients in the observation group underwent acupuncture treatment guided by the "Shaoyang governing bone" theory combined with electroacupuncture using a sparse-dense wave. Both groups were treated for three courses, with each course lasting two weeks. Observe the changes of clinical efficacy, SF-36 health survey scale score, TCM symptom score, WOMAC and VAS scale score, β-collagen degradation product (β-CTX) and 25 hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH-D) level in the two groups.
After three courses of treatment, the total efficacy rate of 98. 00% in the observation group was significantly higher than that of 84.62% in the control group (P <0.05), the scores of the eight dimensions of SF-36 scale were significantly improved (P <0.05), the TCM symptom scores, the scores of WOMAC and VAS scales were significantly reduced (P <0.05), the level of β-CTX was significantly reduced (P <0.05) and 25-OH-VD levels were significantly higher (P <0.05), and the improvement of all indicators was more obvious in the observation group (P < 0.05). In addition, there were 3 cases of adverse reactions in the observation group and 4 cases in the control group, indicating that this study has a better safety profile.
Based on the theory that "Shaoyang governing the bones," the therapeutic approach combining the method of regulating qi, activating blood circulation, and tonifying the kidney with electroacupuncture has shown good clinical efficacy in the treatment of early- and middle-stage knee osteoarthritis. It can significantly improve patients' quality of life, relieve pain, regulate bone metabolism to reduce bone loss, slow down joint degeneration, enhance bone health, and thereby improve knee joint function.
To investigate the efficacy and safety of Shiwei Shengxue Decoction in improving the nutritional status of patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cachexia (Qi and Blood Deficiency Syndrome).
A prospective cohort study design was adopted. Patients with advanced NSCLC who met the diagnostic criteria for Qi and Blood Deficiency Syndrome and cancer cachexia, admitted to Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Capital Medical University, and Shunyi Hospital, Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, from March 2023 to March 2024, were enrolled. Based on whether they received Shiwei Shengxue Decoction (treatment for≥4 weeks), patients were naturally assigned to an exposed group and a non-exposed group. Both groups received conventional nutritional treatment.
After propensity score matching (PSM), 45 pairs of patients were included. The total effective rate for improving nutritional status in the exposed group was 77.8% (35/42), which was significantly higher than that in the non-exposed group (48.9%, 22/45), with a statistically significant difference (P < 0. 05). The exposed group showed superior improvements in increasing food intake, maintaining body weight, enhancing grip strength, and raising serum hemoglobin (Hgb) levels compared to the non-exposed group (P <0.05). However, no statistically significant differences were observed in KPS scores or serum albumin (ALB) levels between the two groups (P > 0.05). No adverse events were reported during the study period.
Shiwei Shengxue Decoction can effectively improve the nutritional status of patients with advanced NSCLC cachexia (Qi and Blood Deficiency Syndrome) with a favorable safety profile.
To explore the clinical efficacy of Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction on patients with phlegm turbidity obstruction type of otolithiasis in recovery phase.
A total of 135 patients with otolithiasis of phlegm turbidity obstruction type were selected and classified into control group (otolith manipulative reduction treatment, 68 cases) and treatment group (otolith manipulative reduction treatment plus Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction, 67 cases) by random number table method. The number of cumulative occurrences, duration, treatment effective rate, TCM syndromes scores, dizziness handicap inventory (DHI), Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA) and treatment safety were compared between groups of patients.
The number of cumulative occurrences and duration in the control group were (3.18 ± 0.59) times and (30.51 ± 5.16) d and those in the treatment group were (2.59 ± 0.61) times and (25.69 ± 5.39) d, and the two indexes in the control group were higher than those in the treatment group (t=5.712, 5.308, < 0.001) . The effective rate of treatment in the treatment group with 95. 52% (64/67) was higher than 82.35% (56/68) in the control group (P <0. 05). After treatment, the scores of various TCM syndromes were lower in the treatment group than those in the control group (P <0.05). The scores of items of DHI in the treatment group after treatment were lower than those in the control group (P <0.05). After treatment, the treatment group had lower HAMA scores than the control group (P <0.05). No statistical difference was exhibited in the safety between both groups (P >0.05).
Banxia Baizhu Tianma Decoction for phlegm turbidity obstruction type of otolithiasis in recovery phase can effectively reduce the number and time of recurrence, enhance the effective rate of treatment, improve the symptoms, relieve the vertigo degree, and alleviate the anxiety of patients, and it will not increase the risk of treatment.
To analyze the therapeutic effect of Xuefu Zhuyu decoction combined with video-assisted thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery in patients with traumatic hemopneumothorax (TH) of qi stagnation and blood stasis type.
A total of 97 patients with qi stagnation and blood stasis type TH admitted to Haian Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2021 to September 2024 were selected and randomly divided into two groups. Both groups were given thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery. 48 cases in the control group received conventional treatment after the operation, and 49 cases in the observation group were treated with Xuefu Zhuyu decoction in addition after the operation. The therapeutic effects of the two groups were compared.
The effective rate of treatment in the observation group was higher than that in the control group (P < 0. 05). After 7 days of treatment, the TCM syndrome score, pulmonary function indicators and coagulation indicators of the observation group were better than those of the control group (P < 0. 05). After 7 days of treatment, the observation group had significantly lower VAS scores than the control group (P <0.05). The time of the first expectoration in the observation group was lower than that in the control group, and the sputum output was higher than that in the control group (P <0.05). Comparison of the incidence of complications between the two groups (P > 0.05).
The treatment of TH patients with Xuefu Zhuyu decoction combined with thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery has a significant effect. It can reduce the TCM syndrome score, alleviate the degree of pain, shorten the expectoration time, and improve coagulation indicators and lung function indicators.
Based on the theory of" Kidney Governing Reproduction", the clinical efficacy of Yushen Zhuyun Formula in treating ovulation dysfunction infertility was discussed.
A total of 102 patients with ovulatory infertility admitted to Nanyang Second General Hospital from January 2022 to January 2024 were selected and randomly divided into a control group (conventional western medicine treatment) and a study group (conventional western medicine + treatment of Yushen Zhuyun Formula) with 51 cases in each group. Record and compare the clinical curative effect of TCM syndrome integral, the two groups, ultrasonic index, sex hormone [serum luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)] level and incidence of adverse reactions.
After treatment, two groups of TCM syndrome integral are lower than before the treatment, and the team was lower (P <0.05). After treatment, clinical treatment group total effective rate was 92.16%, 76.47% higher than the control group (P <0.05). After treatment, the number of dominant follicles was more in both groups than before treatment, and more in the study group (P <0. 05). Two groups of dominant follicle diameter and the thickness of endometrium is higher than before the treatment, and the group is higher (P < 0.05). After treatment, two groups of LH, FSH level was reduced, the E2 levels are higher, and larger variations in team (P < 0.05). During the treatment period, the incidence of adverse reactions in the study group was 5.82%, which was lower than that in the control group 15. 69% (P > 0.05). The natural pregnancy rate in the study group was 41.18%, which was higher than the 21.57% in the control group (P < 0.05).
The Yushen Zhuyun Formula, based on the theory of "Kidney Governing Reproduction", has significant effect on ovulation dysfunction infertility patients, can effectively promote follicle and endometrial development, regulate the recovery of sex hormone levels, with a low incidence of adverse reactions.
To analyze the therapeutic effect of Yupingfeng Powder combined with modified Baohe Pill in the treatment of allergic rhinitis (AR) of spleen deficiency and dampness excess type in children.
A total of 92 children with AR admitted to Tai'an Maternal and Child Health Hospital from February 2024 to November 2024 were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group according to different treatment methods. There were 45 cases in the control group treated with conventional intervention, and 47 cases in the observation group additionally treated with Yupingfeng Powder combined with modified Baohe Pill. Both groups received 14 days of treatment. The therapeutic effects of the two groups were compared; the levels of interleukin (IL-1β, IL-6), procalcitonin (PCT), and immunoglobulin (IgE, IgG) were compared between the two groups; the TCM syndrome scores, nasal airway resistance (NAR), nasal cavity volume at 0~5 cm (NCV), minimal nasal cross-sectional area (NMCA), and nasal respiratory volume within 20 seconds (NS) were observed in both groups; the occurrence of adverse reactions in the two groups was also recorded.
The therapeutic effect of the observation group was superior to that of the control group (P < 0.05). After 14 days of treatment, the levels of interleukin (IL-1β, IL-6), procalcitonin (PCT), immunoglobulin (IgE, IgG), and TCM syndrome scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P <0.01). After 14 days of treatment, the NAR level in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P <0.01), while the NCV, NMCA and NS levels were higher than those in the control group (P <0. 01). No severe adverse reactions occurred in either group during the treatment period.
Yupingfeng Powder combined with modified Baohe Pill exerts a significant therapeutic effect in children with AR. It can reduce TCM syndrome scores and inflammatory levels, improve nasal ventilation function, enhance immune status, and has acceptable safety in clinical application.
To investigate the impact of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) comprehensive therapy, grounded in the theoretical framework of lung, spleen, and kidney treatment, on the balance of Th1/Th2 cytokines and airway remodeling in patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
A total of 180 patients with stable COPD who attended the hospital between March 2023 and December 2024 were selected as study participants. A total of 180 patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who were treated at our hospital between January 2022 and September 2023 were recruited as research participants. These patients were allocated into four groups: the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) group (n = 60), which received basic Western medicine treatment combined with a TCM formula for replenishing qi, dredging collaterals, strengthening the spleen, and tonifying the kidney; the Acupoint group (n = 60), which received basic Western medicine treatment combined with acupoint application therapy; the Combined group (n = 60), which received basic Western medicine treatment combined with both the TCM formula and acupoint application therapy. Data collection included pulmonary function indices [forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in the first second (FEV1)], COPD Assessment Test (CAT) scores, modified British Medical Research Council dyspnea questionnaire (mMRC) scores, serum interferon-γ (IFN-γ), and interleukin-4 (IL-4) levels. Additionally, the study evaluated the ratio of airway wall thickness to external diameter (T/D), the percentage of airway wall thickness relative to total airway diameter (WA%), airway smooth muscle area (ASM%), emphysema index (LAA%), and the incidence of adverse reactions.
The total efficacy rate in the combined treatment group was 100.00% (60/60), which was significantly higher than that in the TCM group (86.67%, 52/60) and the acupoint therapy group (88.33%, 53/60) (86.67%) and the acupoint therapy group (88.33%) (P < 0.05). No significant difference was observed in the total clinical effective rate between the Chinese Medicine group and the Acupoint Therapy group (P > 0.05). After 9 months of treatment, there were no significant differences in serum IFN-γ, IL-4 levels or the IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio between the Chinese medicine group and the acupoint therapy group (P >0.05). At the 9-month mark, serum IFN-γ levels and the IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio in the Combined Therapy group were significantly higher than those in both the Chinese Medicine group and the Acupoint Therapy group (P < 0.05). At the 9-month mark, serum IL-4 levels in the Combined Therapy group were significantly lower than those in both the Chinese Medicine group and the Acupoint Therapy group (P < 0.05). At 3, 6, and 9 months of treatment, the T/D, WA, ASM, and LAA values in the combined treatment group were significantly lower than those in the Chinese medicine group and the acupoint therapy group (P <0.05). At 3, 6, and 9 months of treatment, there were no significant differences in T/D, WA, ASM, or LAA values between the Chinese medicine group and the acupoint therapy group (P >0.05). No significant difference in clinical efficacy was observed between the TCM group and the acupoint therapy group (P >0.05). Post-treatment analysis revealed no significant differences in serum IFN-γ and IL-4 levels, the IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio, as well as T/D, WA, ASM, and LAA values between the TCM group and the acupoint therapy group (P > 0.05). In contrast, the combined treatment group exhibited significantly higher post-treatment serum IFN-γ levels and IFN-γ/IL-4 ratios compared to both the TCM and acupoint therapy groups (P <0.05). Additionally, the combined treatment group demonstrated significantly lower post-treatment serum IL-4 levels and T/D, WA, ASM, and LAA values compared to the TCM and acupoint therapy groups (P < 0.05). The incidence of adverse reactions in the three groups was 15.00%, 16.67%, and 5.00%, respectively, with no statistically significant differences observed among the groups (P > 0.05).

To perform modified Shengma Biejia Decoction combined with Tiaoshen acupuncture therapy for patients with herpes zoster (HZ), and analyze the influence on pain and inflammatory factors.
According to the random number table method, 98 patients with HZ admitted to the hospital from January 2022 to January 2025 were divided into control group (n = 49, Tiaoshen acupuncture method) and combined group (n = 49, modified Shengma Biejia Decoction combined with Tiaoshen acupuncture therapy). The clinical efficacy, pain status [visual analogue scale (VAS)], serum pain mediators [neurotensin (NT), β-endorphin (β-EP), substance P (SP)], serum inflammatory factors [interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)] and occurrence of adverse reactions were compared between groups of patients.
Compared with the control group, the combined group had higher total effective rate of treatment (P <0.05). The VAS scores in the combined group after 7 days and 14 days of treatment were lower (P < 0.05), and the levels of serum NT and β-EP were higher (P <0.05) while the level of serum SP was lower (P < 0.05). The combined group had higher IL-2 (P < 0.05), lower levels of IL-6 and TNF-α (P <0.05) and lower total incidence rate of adverse reactions (P < 0.05).
The combination of modified Shengma Biejia Decoction and Tiaoshen acupuncture therapy is effective in the treatment of HZ, and it can effectively relieve the pain, and regulate the levels of pain-related mediators and inflammatory factors, with few adverse reactions.
To investigate the clinical efficacy of modified Baihu Guizhi Decoction combined with methotrexate (MTX) in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA)
A randomized controlled trial was conducted. A total of 120 RA patients admitted to the outpatient and inpatient departments of Rheumatology and Immunology at Xinyang Central Hospital from January 2022 to April 2024 were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, with 60 cases in each group. The control group received standard-dose MTX, while the observation group received modified Baihu Guizhi Decoction in addition to the MTX regimen. The treatment duration was 12 weeks. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, joint swelling degree, morning stiffness duration, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), rheumatoid factor (RF) titer, C-reactive protein (CRP), and macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) levels were compared between the two groups before and after treatment to evaluate efficacy and safety.
After treatment, TCM syndrome scores, VAS scores, morning stiffness duration, and joint swelling degree improved in both groups, and ESR, RF, CRP, and MIF levels decreased (P < 0.05). The observation group showed significantly greater improvements compared to the control group (P <0.05). The proportion of patients achieving ACR50/70 improvement criteria was higher (P < 0.05), and the incidence of adverse reactions was lower (P < 0.05) in the observation group.
Modified Baihu Guizhi Decoction combined with MTX demonstrates significant efficacy in treating RA with Wind-Damp-Heat obstruction syndrome. Its mechanism of action may be related to the regulation of CRP and MIF expression.
To analyze the efficacy of external application of Zihua Shengji Formula (Purple Flower Tissue Regeneration Formula) on postoperative wounds in anorectal surgery based on the theory of "Fostering exudate to promote tissue regeneration" Theory.
A total of 120 patients with low simple anal fistula/external haemorrhoid undergoing surgery in the Anorectal Department of Handan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from November 2023 to November 2024 were selected as the study subjects. Patients were numbered 1-120 according to their visit sequence and randomly divided into a control group (60 cases, receiving routine postoperative wound care with Western medicine) and a study group (60 cases, receiving routine postoperative wound care with Western medicine plus external application of Zihua Shengji Formula). The wound healing status, wound pain level, inflammatory cytokine levels in wound tissue, growth factor levels, and extracellular matrix (ECM) metabolism-related indicators were compared between the two groups.
Compared with the control group, the study group showed significantly higher wound healing rates on the 7th and 14th postoperative days, significantly lower Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) pain scores on the 7th and 14th postoperative days, and a significantly shorter wound healing time (P <0.05). Compared with levels on the 1st postoperative day within each group, the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-6 in wound tissue on the 14th postoperative day decreased significantly in both groups, while IL-10 levels increased significantly. Furthermore, compared with the control group, the study group exhibited significantly lower levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6, and significantly higher levels of IL-10 on the 14th postoperative day (P < 0.05). Compared with levels on the 1st postoperative day within each group, the levels of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in wound tissue on the 14th postoperative day increased significantly in both groups. Additionally, compared with the control group, the study group showed significantly higher levels of PDGF, VEGF, and bFGF on the 14th postoperative day (P < 0.05). Compared with levels on the 1st postoperative day within each group, the levels of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) in wound tissue on the 14th postoperative day decreased significantly in both groups, while type I collagen (Col I) levels increased significantly. Moreover, compared with the control group, the study group had significantly lower levels of MMP-2 and significantly higher levels of Col I on the 14th postoperative day (P < 0.05).
External application of Zihua Shengji Formula facilitates the reduction of postoperative pain and wound inflammation in anorectal surgery patients. It regulates the levels of wound growth factors and ECM metabolism-related indicators, promotes wound repair, and shortens wound healing time.
To explore the clinical efficacy of Tiaogan Xifeng (Liver-Regulating and Wind-Extinguishing) Acupuncture Therapy combined with conventional western medicine to treat children with tourette's syndrome (spleen deficiency and liver hyperactivity syndrome).
88 children with tourette's syndrome (spleen deficiency and liver hyperactivity syndrome) who were treated in Kaifeng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from September 2022 to January 2025 were selected for the study, and they were randomly divided into two groups, and the each group had 44 cases. The western medicine group received conventional western medicine therapy treatment, while the combination group received Tiaogan Xifeng Acupuncture Therapy on the basis of western medicine group. The traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, severity of symptoms [Yale global tic severity scale (YGTSS)], and neurotransmitter levels [Norepinephrine (NE), γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), dopamine (DA)] of children before and after treatment were compared in two groups, and the clinical efficacy and adverse drug reactions in two groups of children were compared.
After treatment, the traditional Chinese medicine syndrome score, YGTSS score and the levels of NE and DA in two groups decreased (P < 0. 05), and those in the combination group were lower (P < 0.05). After treatment, the level of GABA in two groups increased (P <0.05), and that in combination group was higher (P < 0.05). The total effective rate of treatment in the combination group was higher than that in the western medicine group (P < 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions among in two groups (P > 0.05).
The Tiaogan Xifeng Acupuncture Therapy combined with conventional western medicine to treat children with tourette's syndrome (spleen deficiency and liver hyperactivity syndrome) has good clinical efficacy, and the patient's condition and neurotransmitter levels have significantly improved, and the risk of adverse reactions in children is low.
To explore and analyze the application effect of Banxia Xiexin Decoction on patients with locally advanced gastric cancer during postoperative SOX regimen chemotherapy, and to analyze its influence on immunity and nutritional status of patients.
A total of 118 patients with locally advanced gastric cancer who visited department of gastrointestinal surgery of Shuguang Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2021 to May 2024 were included. They were randomly divided into the conventional group and the combined group using a random number table (simple random grouping method), with 59 cases in each group. The patients in the conventional group received SOX regimen chemotherapy after surgery, whereas the patients in the combined group were added with Banxia Xiexin Decoction. The changes of tumor factors, immune factors, gastrointestinal function and nutritional indicators were observed in the two groups after treatment.
After treatment, the levels of carcinoembryonic antigen, vascular endothelial growth factor, matrix metalloproteinase-9 and other tumor factors in the combined group were lower than those in the conventional group (P < 0.05). The levels of diamine oxidase and fecal calprotectin in the combined group were lower while the level of motilin was higher compared to the conventional group (P <0.05). The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and interleukin-6 in the combined group were lower compared with those in the conventional group while the proportion of CD8 + T was higher (P <0.05). The levels of albumin, prealbumin and transferrin and body mass in the combined group were higher than those in the conventional group (P <0.05). In terms of treatment safety, the incidence rates of adverse chemotherapy reactions were lower in the combined group compared to the conventional group (P <0.05).
Banxia Xiexin Decoction can reduce the levels of tumor factors, promote the improvements of gastrointestinal function, immunity and nutritional status, and play a role in reducing toxicity and increasing efficiency in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer receiving SOX regimen chemotherapy after surgery.
Pearl powder is a traditional Chinese medicinal with astringent properties, traditionally used to remove toxins, promote granulation, calm the mind, improve vision, and eliminate turbidity. Studies have revealed that pearl powder is rich in various bioactive components, including calcium carbonate, multiple amino acids, trace elements, and peptides. In the context of tissue repair, pearl powder facilitates wound healing through diverse pharmacological mechanisms. These include promoting cell proliferation and differentiation, enhancing collagen synthesis, exerting antibacterial effects, inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors, providing antioxidant activity, and demonstrating osteogenic potential. Consequently, it exhibits a promising application prospect in this field. This review aims to summarize the chemical constituents of pearl powder and its pharmacological actions in tissue repair, thereby validating its safety and efficacy in wound management and providing a reference for clinical application.
Pinelliae Rhizoma can dry dampness and resolve phlegm, suppress counter flow and stop vomiting, eliminate fullness and disperse nodules. It has been a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine in clinical practice since ancient times. There are multiple processed Pinelliae Rhizoma preparations used clinically, with the most common being Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Alumine, Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum, and Pinelliae Rhizoma Praeparatum cum Zingibere et Alumine. However, clinical differentiation between these three is often unclear. Therefore, based on classical texts and modern research, this paper examines the differences in processing methods, characteristics, chemical constituents, and pharmacological effects among them, aiming to provide a basis for their clinical application and standardize their use.
