    In the fights against epidemic diseases in China, epidemiological investigations has play a crucial role for epidemic prevention policies and measures. However, the importance of epidemiological investigation is often ignored by media and the public because its works have done behind the scenes. This paper gives a brief introduction of main contributions in epidemiological investigation during SARS, H1N1 and Covid-19 pandemics in China, as well as the development of onsite teams of epidemiological investigation, in order to make the public understand what epidemiological investigation is and how importance it is and better carry out epidemic prevention and control and related science communication and popularization.

    The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has brought new opportunities for deeply thinking on the connotation and mutual relations of differing elements of medical communication in terms of content, disseminators, channels, audiences and effects. The main body of medical communication includes medical staff, medical researchers, public health practitioners and medical humanist. Various forms of network media have become the main channels of medical communication. The effect of medical communication depends basically on the authenticity and reliability of the content. The uncertainty of epidemic-related medical risk information and communication status also affects the effect. Overload of information will weaken the communication effect.

    Based on the research framework of social capital theory and the actual situation of the interview of the frontline staff of community science popularization, the community emergency science popularization mechanism is constructed from the three dimensions of community trust, community network, and community norms, and the specific connotation of the three dimensions is further discussed. At the same time, based on the actual situation of community epidemic prevention and control, Four countermeasures for community emergency science popularization are proposed: promoting the normalization of emergency science popularization; integrating community resources in order to contribute and share benefits; focusing on the participation of community residents; choosing science popularization communication channels appropriately to further improve the capacity and level of community emergency science popularization.

    During COVID-19 epidemic emergency events, science short videos have played an important role in anti-epidemic in a scientific way with characteristics of timely production, efficient dissemination, diverse forms and focused knowledge. This paper analyzes the communication advantages of science short videos in COVID-19 epidemic, works out their classification and characteristics, clarifies the problems and puts forward suggestions that efforts be further made to perfect production release mechanism, strengthen coordination mechanism of media, institutions and scientists, and improve quality of contents for science short videos to take up more social responsibilities.

    Science and technology museums are important science infrastructures. The evaluation is conducive to promoting the overall development of the science and technology museums. This paper establishes a comprehensive evaluation index system for science and technology museums, including 18 third-level indicators from 3 aspects of basic investment, operation performance and social impact. By using the data of national science popularization statistics and big data collected from the network, it obtained, for first time, the comprehensive evaluation ranking of the national science and technology museums. The evaluation results show that the large and super large science and technology museums perform well, and the performance of a few small science and technology museums is outstanding. The difference of development of science and technology museums in various regions of China is more obvious, and the advantages in the eastern region are obvious. The science and technology museums still need to use network technology to expand their social impact.

    The paper visualizes and interprets the literature related to science popularization in CNKI from 2010 to 2019, which reveals the hotspots and the evolution trend of science popularization research. The research hotspots and their interrelationships are presented comprehensively and clearly in the usage of CiteSpace and Vosviewer. Specifically, in the past ten years, domestic science popularization research can be divided into two periods: steady development from 2010 to 2015 and comprehensive strategic upgrading from 2016 to 2019. The hotspots of domestic science popularization research have been evolving from the health, traditional media, weather, scientific literacy and natural disasters, to new topics such as artificial intelligence, integrated circuit, information platform construction, science popularization from the perspective of new media, etc., which will become new hotspots in the domestic science popularization studies in the future.

    This research conducted a questionnaire survey focusing on the digital media literacy of scientists of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Mapping results show that the Internet has become the preferred medium used by Chinese scientists on a daily basis. Scientists are confident in using and identifying network information. However, high-frequency usage does not lead to high degree of trust. Chinese scientists have lower trust in online media than in traditional media. As to communication, Chinese scientists valued peers in science community more than public. This article discusses the causes and countermeasures to the above situation.

    The science communication community believes that the front-line researchers should be encouraged to take active part in science communication activities. However, how front-line researchers understand scientific communication will directly affect their actual participation and concrete action. Investigation in front-line researchers shows that they have different dimensional demands of science communication. Concerning those demands, popularization of science, promotion of science and technology, and news publicity are three relatively mainstream ideas, which have very clear pragmatic motive. The paper analyzes the multi-dimensional influence of this pragmatism appeal on science communication action, and proposes that on the basis of respecting the multi-dimensional appeals of front-line researchers, they should be encouraged to carry out multi-level science communication practice in combination with the concrete reality, so that it would be of great benefit to the healthy development of science communication in China.

    Taking people of science communication from the government-affiliated institutions in Beijing as target audience in a survey, this paper explores, through questionnaire, how science communication title attracts and retains science communication talents, and discusses, on this basis, the impact of such title on the construction of science communication personnel. Mapping results show that science communication title is believed as an effective measure to attract and retain science communication talents. Compared with adjusting the existing title system, the introducing of science communication title is viewed as more important, but it differs among respondents of different ages and length of employment.

    The ability of scientific argumentation has become the essential core ability of modern citizens. The paper aims to illustrate citizens’ understanding of argumentation over controversial scientific issues based on a study of pre-service science teachers by using measuring scale that was created by Martin et al in their study. In particular, it aims to illustrate how these teachers view the quality of arguments related to argumentation in the context of a socio-scientific issue on energy. The results suggest that the level of argumentation about socio-scientific issues of the citizens is relatively low, which mainly reflects their weak awareness of argumentation and incompetence in debating structure. They don’t realize the importance of refutation in an argumentation. There is no significant difference in the argumentation level in gender. In addition, the citizens under study lack sensitivity to socio-scientific issues. On the basis of the study, some suggestions are put forward: Strengthen science essence education in primary and secondary schools to engage students to learn scientific epistemology; attach importance to pre-service teacher’s argumentation ability and cultivate their ability by combining written and oral practices; create a scientific and rational social atmosphere and encourage discussions on socio-scientific issues.

    With the rapid development of science and technology, the traditional management mode of “exhibition-viewing-listening-teaching” and the matching exhibition and teaching methods adopted by the science and technology museums have been partially or completely replaced by the technological functions of the Internet. Therefore, the future work focus and organization form of the science and technology museums should be greatly adjusted, and the original exhibition and teaching mode should be reformed. Based on the status quo and looking into the future, the author proposes a guided exhibition and teaching mode of talent cultivation that can change the traditional way through exploration and research. This mode will realize the transformation from “traditional exhibition and teaching” to “guided training”. Specifically, it will use the exhibition as a platform to provide different training ways for the public, i.e. the training of the future science and technology reserve talents, the training of innovative talents and the training of the potential talents. And it will be a new mode of exhibition and teaching that is characteristic of being goal-oriented, well applicable, highly effective, easy to operate and so on.

    School groups and families are the main groups of visitors to the museums, which makes the museum education an important bridge between formal education and family education gradually. So parent-child visiting behaviors in museums not only have a huge impact on children’s museum learning, but also may affect the collaborative education between families and schools. This paper took Shanghai Science and Technology Museum as an example to observe the parent-child interaction during their visits and the records of 32 groups of parent-child interaction behaviors were coded using software Nvivo11.0 based on the grounded theory. Finally, aiming at the problems existing in parent-child interaction behaviors, this paper proposes some strategies to promote parent-child interaction.

    The fusion of popular science and school education is a future trend of science popularization for youth in our country. Based on some related studies and the findings of a questionnaire survey of the Experimental Middle School Attached to Yunnan Normal University, the paper argues that the integration of popularization of campus meteorological science into school curriculum should be grounded on training students’ practical ability and paying much attention to hands-on meteorological engaging activities. It suggests that the integration of campus meteorological engagement into school education be exercised in many domains such as education concepts, curriculum design and class teaching.
