ArchiveDue to the increment of the information consumption, the process of informatization of science popularization products is accelerated. Since consumer habits are changing, more and more mobile Internet science products appear on the market. Therefore, to research the intention of consumer purchase science outreach products will help to promote the development of MN-based science outreach products and have positive influence on the popular science information construction. From three different research perspectives, namely the IT development, consumer intention and social psychology, the study combines Sheth-Newman-Gross consumption value model with theoretical framework. The consumer intention of MN-based science outreach products is analyzed by SEM, and the related influencing factors are verified. In a nutshell, some targeted countermeasures and suggestions are put forward based on the research findings.
New media serves as an important power in promoting social development. New media has exerted far-reaching influence, brought new vitality, and changed the structure of time and space for science popularization. From that sense, science popularization will place more emphasis on interactivity, participation and experienceing. But the current institutional system of our science popularization does not accord with the needs for new media development, mainly featuring institution dependence, technical track dependence and content dependence. In the presence of the trend of media convergence, the key way for science popularization development is to positively transform the system and mechanism, establish a system that fits new media, and cultivate and promote scientific culture that is in line with the feature of internet era.
Media monitoring approach focusing on scientific texts can provide a reflection on the texture of public science and reveal the different roles assumed by the media and other social groups during the communication of science. Texture analysis on media discourses is thus useful to achieve the above-mentioned goals, especially when assisted with analytical techniques of text coding and feature reduction based on procedures such as thematic indexing and keyword screening. In the paper, we made texture analysis on an amount of scientific coverage that appeared in two different newspapers, namely, People’s Daily and Southern Weekly, it not only draws an overall picture of how various science issues compete against each other in the news, but also leads the way to the construction of scientific corpora and keyword lexicon which in turn lay a theoretical and utilizable foundation of a more comprehensive monitoring approach to the process of informational dissemination of public science.
The PCST conference is an important conference in the field of science communication. The metrology research on the papers of PCST conferences could help to obtain a glimpse of the characteristics and hot spots of science communication research. There were 1954 papers, 3536 author’s names and 2479 communication information after the papers were sorted out. The frequency of distributions of author’s name, author’s country, author’s affiliations and keywords were analyzed. We can see it from the sorted document that most of the authors had only one signature. Nearly 90% papers were from 25 countries, mainly coming from India, China, Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. Over 90% papers were from universities, research institutions and government agencies. The themes were not so concentrated, and the keywords distributions was not that focused.
A first batch of 92 science centers all over the country were open to the public for free on May 16, 2015. Based on the surveys conducted on their operation under freely open condition, the paper analyses the basic situation of those 92 science centers, including audience number, exhibits availability, operation guarantee, and working staff. Nowadays science centers are gradually approaching the era of being made open to the public for free, and this brings many unprecedented challenges to our industry, including shortage of operation funds, shortage of professionals, needing to adjust audience service, needing to strengthen public appeal, etc. From the afore-mentioned analysis, the following suggestions are made for the sound development. Firstly, new funds investment system shall be established. Secondly, science centers shall spare no efforts to promote exhibit development and innovation. Thirdly, Multi-layer service system is of great necessity to enhance audiences’ visit quality. Fourthly, full-time and part-time talent team construction in science centers shall be strengthened.
Special Committee of Science and Technology Museums made a survey on the present status of science instructors in science centers in our country in 2015. On the analysis of some indexes on age structure, academic background, professional title, annual income, on-the-job training and career contents, etc, this paper tries to come to a conclusion that there exist a number of problems in the career of science instructors, such as unreasonable staff structure, unclear professional orientation, not too smooth career promotion channels and unsystematic, and upgrade of on-the-job training etc. In a nutshell, this paper comes up with some suggestions for the sound development, among which to establish the career development path for science instructors by mainly analyzing the career orientation, career development ladder and auxiliary mechanismis an important measure.
Firstly, the paper analyzes the importance of emergency science popularization (ESP) and main problems of ESP in China where the supply of ESP products is not enough, and the current resource sharing mechanism where the public lack opportunities to obtain ESP skills training. Secondly, three advantages in modern system of science and technology museum with Chinese characteristics are analyzed, it contributes greatly to the increasing number of the public who accept education and acquire enlightenments from ESP, it in turn helps to enhance the public’s skills to deal with emergencies and reduce development costs of ESP resources. Last but not the least, some suggestions are put forward in the paper, such as the construction of education base, “light cavalry, ” digital science and technology museum, and film and television production base for ESP.
Through the empirical study, this article finds that the public perception influence factors of service quality of science popularization volunteer comprises clothing instrument, service attitude, professional skills, responding efficiency, as well as science information. Among the aforementioned factors, professional skills, responding efficiency and science information exert significant influence on quality of service. Besides, the service quality have positive effects on public satisfaction. There is a difference between different gender concerning their public perception on the popular science volunteer service quality. Furthermore, the study shows that some effective measures need to be put in place to enhance the service quality for current popular science volunteer.
With the development of computer and network, we have ushered into a ‘big data’ era. More and more people have become accustomed to acquiring information from network. And the focus of development of museums has shifted from ‘collection’ to ‘people’. On the basis of Baidu Index, the research is mainly about audiences’ time selection, place selection, the useful information for selection, the decision maker for selection, motivation and preference of visiting selection. On the basis of the study on the visiting selection, the suggestions for museum development are put forward in the paper where a great deal of efforts shall be made in museum cluster, museum promotion, exhibition and education, the application of new media, and diversity strategy.
Popular science drama is a widely used method to popularize knowledge of natural science. The survey aims to investigate the receptivity of audience in popular natural science drama. By analyzing data collected by questionnaire investigation, audience’s attitudes and preference were analyzed. The conclusions obtained in the paper will make great contribution to the prospective development of popular natural science drama.
Scientific literacy is an important way gauging citizen literacy and also an embodiment of soft power of one country. Scientific and technological innovation and science popularization are the two essential components to realize the development of innovation. In recent years, great achievements have been made in science popularization in Beijing whereby rich experience has been accumulated. Due to the updating of science and technology communication, such as the new generation of IT and “Internet +” etc, great efforts shall be made to accommodate these new developments and explore new innovation with an expanded horizon, all those will contribute to a sound development of science popularization in Beijing. This paper summarizes the work of science popularization in Beijing during the period of 12th Five-year, and proposes some main ideas and contents for the 13th Five-year Plan.

However, when seen from today’s academic views, the book conforms to the professional norms of the history of technology, and also it contains many academic thoughts of its author, which are even quite right and make sense today. The little book was elaborately written by his author in his times, it is a very good book which should not be neglected in researching the history of technology, and the development history of history of technology itself. The book is worth carefully reading.
