ArchiveCrowdsourcing Science is a new form of scientific production which combined with research body and active public in networks, dynamically linked the human resources, data, materials, ideas with internet technology, crossed time, space and the boundaries of research organizations, to improve the speed and quality of research. The practice of “Galaxy Zoo”, British crowdsourcing science project, indicated that public would achieve engagement in crowdsourcing science organization through three steps: identification, learning and expression. It enriches the connotation of science communication in the age of network, and brings innovative power for the evolution of scientific morphology and scientific production paradigm.
is a country with a long history and profound traditional culture. China has taken faster steps in the advancement of science and technology. The evolution of the culture should be observed with the research model of Big Data in the Internet and computation age. This culture change dose not only include an understanding of science and technology but also the change of attitudes towards technology application, and its impact on traditional culture. This article brings up a concept “Sci-Culturomics” inspired by the concept “Culturomics”. The author also talks about the possibility and value of the research model under the current context of big data in based on survey.
The paper takes Mobile-game Science Popularization as the research item. Firstly, it investigates popular service models from institutions in foreign countries, they include Smithsonian, MIT and so on, those aforementioned three models can be analyzed through User Interaction, User Experience and User Education. And the paper summarizes the whole development history within China, gives specific experience and inspirations for future development based on its problems, they are: attaching great importance to Quality construction, Game classification and application of new technology and so on.
This research quantitatively analyze the Chinese literature which studied in the interaction between popularization of science and advertising with the content analysis, and summed up the development and the present situation of this study. We find that, in Chinese context and background, the research of the interaction between popularization of science and advertising is comparatively deficient, fall behind with the practice of the interaction of popularization of science and advertising. But, it is also found that the research of this question increase with a high rate, and has a bright future.
This paper discusses the progress of adult science learning research and the implementing of it from the lifelong learning based on the progress of research on the concept and ability of lifelong learning. Its references mainly come from STEM education, STS education, HPS education and new generation science standards in US and it puts forward six dimensions on the content framework of adult science learning in this paper, they include mastering the basic scientific knowledge and skills, having a self-directed learning motivation, cognition and ability, understanding the nature of science, the scientific method and the process of scientific inquiry, setting up the correct scientific attitude and scientific ethics and having a legal consciousness, knowing social operation mechanism of science and technology and actively participating in decision-making, understanding the innovation of science and technology and having a certain innovation consc-iousness. In a nutshell, this paper makes an in-depth study of the compiling of guidance outline for adults on science learning.
In order to start the construction of Intelligent Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum held an important information consulting seminar on December 11, 2014. The experts, policy makers, and CTO of enterprises all came to discuss the trend of Big Data, Cloud Computing, Mobile Internet, Intelligent City, IT Governance and so on. From that point of view, it seems that the high technologies could solve all the problems having to do with science education and create a ubiquitous and super intelligent museum. As a matter of fact, technology is virtually a double-edged sword and the information age needs more human wisdom. This article discusses the origin of wisdom, the relationship between museum and city culture, compares the different roles of museum and university, and finally draws a conclusion that the future “3-in-1” Shanghai Intelligent Science and Technology Museum should take responsibilities to create a new culture center for Shanghai international metropolitan development.
Technology is one of the most important themes for exhibition in Science and Technology Museums. But most exhibition designers only present technology to visitors instead of exhibits' cultural connotations. From that sense, people will find it difficult to understand the role of technology played in society, the great significance of every technological revolution and the direction of technological reform in the future. Through a case study for Plants and People exhibition in Kew Gardens, we know that if we introduce anthropological theories to popular science exhibitions, we can build up a more complete cultural picture about technology to help visitors understand those cultural connotation therein.
Evaluation plays an important role in measuring science & technology exhibitions' function and value. After analyzing and comparing the development course and current situation of evaluation of science & technology exhibitions both in America and China, some differences have been found. Firstly, evaluation of science & technology exhibitions in America emerged in the beginning of the 20th century, and has formed a quantitative-focused evaluation system including front-end, formative, remedial, and summative evaluation so far. While Chinese researchers had not paid attention to the evaluation of science & technology exhibition until the 1980s, thus carrying out visitor studies and evaluation practices far less than American works. Secondly, there are institutional demands of evaluation for government-funded science & technology exhibitions, yet Chinese government has no such requirements. Thirdly, evaluation practices of science & technology exhibition in America and China vary in type, evaluator, content and tools.
Sofio was a member of the science writers in 1930s and 1940s in China who dedicated himself to popularizing medical knowledge by virtue of literature. He was skilled in selecting topics from daily life. In order to popularize scientific knowledge, Sofio wrote the books in varied literature forms, such as essays, dramas, fairy tales and poetry, etc based on their reading level and psychological development. In terms of techniques used here, he attempted to exert self-disclosure style, diary style, epistle style and other types of literature. He explained abstract medical knowledge in simple and easily understandable terms.
In the 21th century, it is obviously clear that people from different counties and nations in the world need to learn from each other in such areas as science, technology, culture and art, etc., For Chinese people at large, reading Chinese translation books has always been the main way to learn advanced science, technology, culture and art, from foreign countries. But as far as many translated books are concerned, there are many questions needed to be discussed with respect to whether the translated method is right or wrong. In some already translated books, there exist a large number of errors in translation, where the readers cannot grasp the true meaning of the original works. The paper seeks to discuss some problems in translated books by using some examples, and it is better that it can offer some guidance and reference for readers, publishers, and especially the translators.
Under the new situation, science popularization constitutes the social basis of the implementation of innovation-driven development strategy; it is the inevitable need of the whole community to understand and support scientific and technological innovation; it is the means to change the government functions and increase public services of science and technology; and it is also the channel for public to understand science and technology issues, and hotly-debated and focal issue in the society. Based on statistics of Beijing science popularization in 2012 and 2013, this paper describes Beijing science popularization work in recent years and analyzes the main characteristics and experience of carrying out science popularization work. Pertaining to the problems of Beijing science popularization work, some suggestions have been put forward. (1) To integrate the science and technology resources of the society and to promote the formation of pattern of science popularization socialization. (2) To innovate and develop the forms and content of modern science popularization to meet the growing needs of the public. (3) To strengthen qualified personnel of science popularization, and to optimize the structure of science popularization team. (4) To improve the government-led diversified investment mechanism and to ensure the funding for science popularization. (5) To strengthen the theoretical study of science popularization and to promote the practical implementation of science popularization.
With the booming development of computer, Internet and mobile communication technology, new media is also embarking on a fast track, and scientific popularization model also urgently calls for innovation. This paper summarizes the problems existing in traditional scientific popularization model, and makes an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of micro media era and its influence on science popularization, and puts forward some relevant suggestions as to how to promote innovation of science popularization model under the era of icro media.
