ArchiveTo enhance Civic Scientific Literacy is critically important for the building of an innovation-based country and continuously bolstering national core competitiveness. Thanks to the promulgation of the Outline of the National Scheme for Scientific Literacy (2006-2010-2020) by the State Council in 2006, and the concerted efforts made by government institutions at various levels, substantial progress has been made in the improvement of scientific literacy, and it will embark on a new era of rapid development. Therefore, during the 13th five year plan period, great efforts should be made to take advantage of the good opportunities where the index of Civic Scientific Literacy will be increasing exponentially, make full use of informatization in science popularization, make the increasing of scientific literacy for the key targeted people as a prioritized task, as well as make a sharing mechanism for scientific literacy more firmly grounded. It is clear that all the aforementioned efforts will contribute enormously to the development goal set for the improvement of scientific literacy during that period.
By analyzing the Micro-blog data during the period of “Lanzhou Water Contamination”, we found that there are six clusters of Micro-blog users who paid close attention to the “Lanzhou Water Contamination”. Through analyzing the Micro-blog context and contents published by those six clusters of Micro-blog users and the data of the network nodes of the interrelated Micro-blog text and their comments, we try to find the communication mechanism of science popularization on Micro-blog published by different clusters of users, and thus, to propose some advice for establishing a better environment for science popularization on Micro-blog.
Environmental Mass Incidents in microblogging era, different interest groups compete for the right of speech in microblogging. In this paper, we take “waste incineration power plant in Yuhang Zhongtai ” as an example, describing briefly the development stage of this event, and analyzing the expression characteristics of the government, the media, the public in the Field of micro blogging. It augues achieving harmony and stability ensures the legitimate interests of the various groups, and actively build a harmonious opinion field.
As development of science and technology and public participation awareness, science and technology ethics became high debated issues. This paper quantitative analyses science and technology ethics coverage in Chinese mainstream newspaper press from the aspects of coverage amount, news issues, subjects, cited and sources, as well as compare the difference between the coverage on traditional and social media. Three hot debated issues about science and technology ethics are deeply analyzed, which are technology ethics legalization, bioethics and information ethics. Eventually, the paper gave some advices to promote science and technology ethics coverage development, like increasing the amount of reports, promoting legalization and guiding public opinion.
A green public sphere is important for the free environmental communication in a country. However, this concept is relatively new to the public in China. Here we show that the PM2.5 event in 2011 plays an important role in the formation of a green public sphere in China. First, we review the PM2.5 event in China and the basic theory of green public sphere. Next, we investigate the role of the PM2.5 event in the formation of a green public sphere in China. Finally, we conclude that a green public sphere has complicated structures and is multilayered.
It has became a valuable subject to study on how to promote the effect and efficiency of knowledge transfer of exhibits in Sci-tech museum. We used empirical analysis method to identify the influential factors of Knowledge Stickiness based on Anchoring Effect, to clarify the high priority anchoring point, and design the first information easily accepted by visitors to settle down the anchoring point. The results showed upgrade rate should not be the primary influencing factor for knowledge stickiness, while the soft factors play an important role. The prior anchoring point should be the relativity between exhibits and visitors, which would mainly include relativity among contents and education background, interests and life of visitors. It concluded that to promote knowledge transfer of exhibits and achieve anchoring of visitors, the first information to visitors from exhibits should mainly focused on the relativity between exhibits and visitors' life, interest, situational sense, or interesting plot of exhibits, which would form a first impression of thought that “this exhibit linked to my life”, “this exhibit must be interesting”, or “there must be stories of this exhibit”. We suggested using cultural terms instead of mechanical scientific terms, to exposit exhibits with the macroscopic social context and the historical chance and many other methods, with the final aim to promote the knowledge transfer effect and efficiency of existing exhibits.
The United States as the world's most developed country in science and technology, makes a huge number of far-reaching science fiction films with various topics. By extracting some typical American science fiction films with ecological theme as samples, we can analyze the relationship between human and nature, and the relationship between the development of science and technology and science fiction films. Philosophical analyzing of science fiction films with ecological theme will promote the rational development of science and technology as well as maintain harmonious relationship between the science & technology and natural ecological environment.
Popular scientific magazines in Germany are divided into three categories: comprehensive, subject-oriented and research society journals. The comprehensive magazines are Bild der Wissenschaft, GEO, P.M. Welt des Wissens, Spektrum der Wissenschaft, Technology Review, Welt der Wunder, Wunderwelt Wissen, H rzu Wissen, Wissen & Staunen and Wissen. Subject-oriented magazines include Chemie in unserer Zeit, Biologie in unserer Zeit, Physik in unserer Zeit, Sterne und Weltraum, Spcace, Interstellarum, Gehirn und Geist, Psychologie Heute, Natur and National Geographic Deutschland. Research society journals MaxPlanckForschung, weiter.vorn, Helmholtz Perspektiven and Leibniz-Journal are published from the Max Plank Society, the Fraunhofer Society, the Helmholtz Association and the Leibniz Association, respectively. Typical features of the German popular scientific magazines are: relatively short history, brand promotion through cover styling, uncreative new magazine names, high premium on young generations, frequent application of illustrations, co-existence of national and international brands, participation of research societies and overlook of chemistry topics. These are reflecting both positive and negative aspects. The positive ones could be applied for the further development of popular scientific publications in China.
Botanical Pastime, published at the beginning of the nineteenth century, was an edutainment of botany, which adopted the catechism as a means of science education. The botanical knowledge and illustrations of this edutainment were mainly borrowed from An Introduction to Botany, written by Priscilla Wakefield. It aimed to make participators learn Linnaean Botany, which was fashionable during that time. From the innovator Linnaeus and the botanizer Rousseau to Wakefield, there are two directions of science communication, namely the one from elite botanists to popularizers and the other among popularizers. Different from traditional books, this edutainment was a creative try of popular science publication. It was also a new way of public science consumption.
Through analyzing and summarizing the foreign and domestic literature about the topic of “input-output of science popularization”, this paper compares the difference between domestic and foreign research situation about the input and the output of science popularization, analyzes the existing research results of the input-output efficiency of science popularization and the popular science effect. The following conclusions can be drawn. (1) There are some limitations to the study of the input and the output of science popularization, and has been a lack of quantitative research and analysis. (2) Compared with the developed countries, there are still gaps of the input and the output of popular science. (3) There is almost no research on the input-output efficiency of science popularization. (4) The study on popular science effect is relatively weak at home and abroad, and there is no authoritative evaluation system.
