Under the new situation, science popularization constitutes the social basis of the implementation of innovation-driven development strategy; it is the inevitable need of the whole community to understand and support scientific and technological innovation; it is the means to change the government functions and increase public services of science and technology; and it is also the channel for public to understand science and technology issues, and hotly-debated and focal issue in the society. Based on statistics of Beijing science popularization in 2012 and 2013, this paper describes Beijing science popularization work in recent years and analyzes the main characteristics and experience of carrying out science popularization work. Pertaining to the problems of Beijing science popularization work, some suggestions have been put forward. (1) To integrate the science and technology resources of the society and to promote the formation of pattern of science popularization socialization. (2) To innovate and develop the forms and content of modern science popularization to meet the growing needs of the public. (3) To strengthen qualified personnel of science popularization, and to optimize the structure of science popularization team. (4) To improve the government-led diversified investment mechanism and to ensure the funding for science popularization. (5) To strengthen the theoretical study of science popularization and to promote the practical implementation of science popularization.
