But most exhibition designers only present technology to visitors instead of exhibits' cultural connotations. From that sense, people will find it difficult to understand the role of technology played in society, the great significance of every technological revolution and the direction of technological reform in the future. Through a case study for Plants and People exhibition in Kew Gardens, we know that if we introduce anthropological theories to popular science exhibitions, we can build up a more complete cultural picture about technology to help visitors understand those cultural connotation therein.
This paper discusses the progress of adult science learning research and the implementing of it from the lifelong learning based on the progress of research on the concept and ability of lifelong learning. Its references mainly come from STEM education, STS education, HPS education and new generation science standards in US and it puts forward six dimensions on the content framework of adult science learning in this paper, they include mastering the basic scientific knowledge and skills, having a self-directed learning motivation, cognition and ability, understanding the nature of science, the scientific method and the process of scientific inquiry, setting up the correct scientific attitude and scientific ethics and having a legal consciousness, knowing social operation mechanism of science and technology and actively participating in decision-making, understanding the innovation of science and technology and having a certain innovation consc-iousness. In a nutshell, this paper makes an in-depth study of the compiling of guidance outline for adults on science learning.
Sofio was a member of the science writers in 1930s and 1940s in China who dedicated himself to popularizing medical knowledge by virtue of literature. He was skilled in selecting topics from daily life. In order to popularize scientific knowledge, Sofio wrote the books in varied literature forms, such as essays, dramas, fairy tales and poetry, etc based on their reading level and psychological development. In terms of techniques used here, he attempted to exert self-disclosure style, diary style, epistle style and other types of literature. He explained abstract medical knowledge in simple and easily understandable terms.
In order to start the construction of Intelligent Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum held an important information consulting seminar on December 11, 2014. The experts, policy makers, and CTO of enterprises all came to discuss the trend of Big Data, Cloud Computing, Mobile Internet, Intelligent City, IT Governance and so on. From that point of view, it seems that the high technologies could solve all the problems having to do with science education and create a ubiquitous and super intelligent museum. As a matter of fact, technology is virtually a double-edged sword and the information age needs more human wisdom. This article discusses the origin of wisdom, the relationship between museum and city culture, compares the different roles of museum and university, and finally draws a conclusion that the future “3-in-1” Shanghai Intelligent Science and Technology Museum should take responsibilities to create a new culture center for Shanghai international metropolitan development.
As development of science and technology and public participation awareness, science and technology ethics became high debated issues. This paper quantitative analyses science and technology ethics coverage in Chinese mainstream newspaper press from the aspects of coverage amount, news issues, subjects, cited and sources, as well as compare the difference between the coverage on traditional and social media. Three hot debated issues about science and technology ethics are deeply analyzed, which are technology ethics legalization, bioethics and information ethics. Eventually, the paper gave some advices to promote science and technology ethics coverage development, like increasing the amount of reports, promoting legalization and guiding public opinion.
By analyzing the Micro-blog data during the period of “Lanzhou Water Contamination”, we found that there are six clusters of Micro-blog users who paid close attention to the “Lanzhou Water Contamination”. Through analyzing the Micro-blog context and contents published by those six clusters of Micro-blog users and the data of the network nodes of the interrelated Micro-blog text and their comments, we try to find the communication mechanism of science popularization on Micro-blog published by different clusters of users, and thus, to propose some advice for establishing a better environment for science popularization on Micro-blog.
Popular scientific magazines in Germany are divided into three categories: comprehensive, subject-oriented and research society journals. The comprehensive magazines are Bild der Wissenschaft, GEO, P.M. Welt des Wissens, Spektrum der Wissenschaft, Technology Review, Welt der Wunder, Wunderwelt Wissen, H rzu Wissen, Wissen & Staunen and Wissen. Subject-oriented magazines include Chemie in unserer Zeit, Biologie in unserer Zeit, Physik in unserer Zeit, Sterne und Weltraum, Spcace, Interstellarum, Gehirn und Geist, Psychologie Heute, Natur and National Geographic Deutschland. Research society journals MaxPlanckForschung, weiter.vorn, Helmholtz Perspektiven and Leibniz-Journal are published from the Max Plank Society, the Fraunhofer Society, the Helmholtz Association and the Leibniz Association, respectively. Typical features of the German popular scientific magazines are: relatively short history, brand promotion through cover styling, uncreative new magazine names, high premium on young generations, frequent application of illustrations, co-existence of national and international brands, participation of research societies and overlook of chemistry topics. These are reflecting both positive and negative aspects. The positive ones could be applied for the further development of popular scientific publications in China.
It has became a valuable subject to study on how to promote the effect and efficiency of knowledge transfer of exhibits in Sci-tech museum. We used empirical analysis method to identify the influential factors of Knowledge Stickiness based on Anchoring Effect, to clarify the high priority anchoring point, and design the first information easily accepted by visitors to settle down the anchoring point. The results showed upgrade rate should not be the primary influencing factor for knowledge stickiness, while the soft factors play an important role. The prior anchoring point should be the relativity between exhibits and visitors, which would mainly include relativity among contents and education background, interests and life of visitors. It concluded that to promote knowledge transfer of exhibits and achieve anchoring of visitors, the first information to visitors from exhibits should mainly focused on the relativity between exhibits and visitors' life, interest, situational sense, or interesting plot of exhibits, which would form a first impression of thought that “this exhibit linked to my life”, “this exhibit must be interesting”, or “there must be stories of this exhibit”. We suggested using cultural terms instead of mechanical scientific terms, to exposit exhibits with the macroscopic social context and the historical chance and many other methods, with the final aim to promote the knowledge transfer effect and efficiency of existing exhibits.
The United States as the world's most developed country in science and technology, makes a huge number of far-reaching science fiction films with various topics. By extracting some typical American science fiction films with ecological theme as samples, we can analyze the relationship between human and nature, and the relationship between the development of science and technology and science fiction films. Philosophical analyzing of science fiction films with ecological theme will promote the rational development of science and technology as well as maintain harmonious relationship between the science & technology and natural ecological environment.
Through analyzing and summarizing the foreign and domestic literature about the topic of “input-output of science popularization”, this paper compares the difference between domestic and foreign research situation about the input and the output of science popularization, analyzes the existing research results of the input-output efficiency of science popularization and the popular science effect. The following conclusions can be drawn. (1) There are some limitations to the study of the input and the output of science popularization, and has been a lack of quantitative research and analysis. (2) Compared with the developed countries, there are still gaps of the input and the output of popular science. (3) There is almost no research on the input-output efficiency of science popularization. (4) The study on popular science effect is relatively weak at home and abroad, and there is no authoritative evaluation system.
