Latest ArticlesIn order to study the cognition of the parents participating in the series of parent-child science-popularization educational activities, Museum of Chengdu University of Technology designs the details of five aspects including the analysis of the parent-child activity participants, the interpretation of parent-child relationship, the frequency and personnel makeup of the parent-child activities and the analysis of the participation willing. According to the analysis results, it is known that museum’s carrying out series of parent-child activities has great potential. The participating objects are mainly the children from the kindergarten to Grade 4 of primary school and their parents. The parents in the activities pay more attention to the experience and practice of their children and thus have further cognition about the parent-child relationship. The cognition is good to set up and improve parent-child relationship. In this age which is full of media, the museum should establish service awareness, strengthen the joint with corresponding social organizations, design and carry out series of parent-child activities with museum characteristics.
Facing the changing of talent demand and diversified ways of museum talent cultivation, the major crisis of museology is already apparent in Chinese universities. It is urgent matter to break the museology limitations of awkward affiliations and narrow positioning, and to explore paths of talent cultivation of natural science museums in Chinese universities. Based on the theoretical analysis of current situations of museology in Chinese universities, it is found that there are two reasons of concept and institutional mechanism not to meet the needs of personnel training in natural science museums. It is suggested that it is conducive to train cross-subjects persons for profession by binary complex mode, the master-minor composite mode, or general education mode, based on correcting the concept of museology and construction of talent cultivation mechanism.
This study conducted a series of content analyses of the articles published by Journal of Research in Science Teaching from 1982 to 2013. A total of 1803 research papers were analyzed by HistCiteTM. Research results found were analyses in terms of author’s nationality, quality of the journal, citation frequency and research historical context. By citations chronological chart clearly expressed the context of science education research and development, in order to capture the evolution of trends in the field. The most of the published articles for the development of China’s science and education to provide a frame, in order to enhance public scientific literacy, indirectly promote technological innovation.
Responding to the national call of “Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation” under the current times, a new wave of technological innovation activities are taking shape in China, it also opens up a new way for people to participate in construction of science culture. In the future, Chinese science culture should be transferred from circle culture of “the scientific community” into a kind of social culture jointly built and shared by the public. To handle and eliminate unhealthy social trend and conduct serves as a foundation for the people to build the scientific culture. Constructing national education system for science culture, encouraging non-governmental organizations to participate in the construction and operation of scientific culture, carrying out diversified projects for the public to get to know science, and promoting the international cooperation and communication, serves as an essentially important way for the public to participate in science culture construction.
Construction of science popularization capacity and science popularization resources not only requires construction of “hard resources” such as infrastructure in science and technology museum and science popularization exhibits, but also requires construction and improvement of “soft resources” such as professionals of science and technology museum. The quality of professional team directly decides the comprehensive strength of science and technology museum, capacity to design science popularization exhibits and level of scheming and organizing science popularization activities and carrying out science popularization services. With rapidly developing high technology, it is imperative for sustainable development of science and technology museum undertaking in China to forge a professional team of science and technology museum with appropriate scale, reasonable structure, excellent quality and powerful guarantee. This paper takes China Science and Technology Museum as an example, proposes existing deficiencies in construction of professional team of China Science and Technology Museum through analyzing current situation of professional team of China Science and Technology Museum, presents strategic management concept for professional team of China Science and Technology Museum through SWOT model and puts forward suggestions and imaginations of corresponding measures targeted at existing problems.
This study aims to conduct a research on college students’ perception on nuclear power and attitudes toward it. Focus group discussions and questionnaires are employed to investigate students from ten universities in Guangzhou city, including their self-perception and real knowledge of nuclear power, attitudes toward it, and which form and channel they prefer to use to access information having to do with science popularization. Results reveal that College students have limited knowledge of nuclear power, but the majority of them have positive attitudes toward it. The most reliable information sources to them are experts in the field of nuclear power, research institutions and regulators. University students prefer to gain more information about safety of nuclear power through interesting documentary. Moreover, descriptive analysis, statistical comparison, explorative analysis and other methods are used to analyze differences in gender, major and region. Factors influencing students’ attitudes toward nuclear power are examined. Implications of study findings for future science popularization and energy decision-makers engagedin the task of transforming College students’ attitudes toward nuclearpower are also discussed.
We measure and compare the main hot spots and research groups of images of scientists research literature both at home and abroad indexed by WOS and CNKI on the basic principles of Scientometrics by the way of keywords co-occurrence, author co-citation and research institutions and regional visualization analysis. The results indicate that hot topics of images of scientists abroad are more diversified and systematic, they pay more attention to “science”, core authors have been formed, and research institutions are mainly distributed in America; on the contrary, hot topics of images of scientists are not that diversified in China, core authors are still in the preliminary stage, and research institutions are mainly based in such cities as Beijing and Wuhan.
With the vigorous development of Science and Technology Museums in China, an increasing number of people find it easy to approach and understand science through visiting science museums and science centers. The philosophy of international science education is during the process of the transformation from scientific inquiry to scientific practices. Essentially, the source of science communication is from scientific research institutions and scientific community specializing in scientific practices. The Science and Technology Museums can play a great role in building a communication platform and bridge between the public and scientific community, the Open Research Laboratory in Europe and the Living Laboratory in USA are best practices in this respect. Inspired by this, STMs can construct scientific platforms on researching or spreading level through introducing scientific research projects into Science and Technology Museums, and provide opportunities to help the public be deeply involved in the activities of scientists’ practices on the basis of cooperation with professional scientific research institutions.
The dynamic change in total factor productivity of science popularization resources allocation is measured by using data such as the analytical method of Malmquist Index, it is based on the provincial panel data stemming from the science popularization statistical yearbook from 2006 to 2013. The results show that: from a perspective of the time series, the total factor productivity has increased by an average of 6.7 percent points, among which technical growth is 6.1 percent which acts as a primary promoting role; from the space sequence, science resource allocation in the Eastern, Central and Western parts of China gains a good efficiency, but the proportion of each type of the growth still remains unbalanced. In a nutshell, in order to promote the work of popular science in China, the paper proposes some ideas such as improving the quality of science personnel and government-led social donation etc.
Through a survey of ten WeChat public platforms on scientific achievements in China, the paper summarizes four major characteristics of them, discusses two aspects of their influence, and finally puts forward four suggestions for their further improvement, namely, enriching the diversification of communication forms, expanding the scope of communication, subdividing diverse audiences, strengthening different supervisions, and fostering a favorable atmosphere for science popularization.
