    As one of the important forms of popular science creation, animation is more and more loved and used by popular science creators. Medical health is an important part of popular science, and the number of works in this field is increasing year by year. This paper uses the classic narratology theory to explore the narrative strategies applicable to general medical health popular science animations from different points of views such as the setting and combination of roles, the shaping and connection of internal and external human body, the choice and switching of narrative perspectives, and the construction and arrangement of narrative structures. The study focuses on the analysis of excellent popular science animation works such as “Inside Out”, “Cells at Work” and “Osmosis Jones”, so as to provide inspiration for the creation of popular science animations of this kind.

    Based on the investigation of science popularization practitioners training and cultivation, the statistical analysis of science popularization monographs published during 1950—2016, as well as the definition of science popularization practitioners and science popularization textbooks, this study analyzes current situation and demands of science popularization practitioners, and assesses the publications of science popularization textbooks. The main conclusion is that the fragmentizing of science popularization textbooks directly reflects the weakness of science popularization practitioners cultivation and the lack of training systems. Suggestions are proposed in the paper as the following: firstly, strengthen the construction of science communication and popularization disciplines; secondly, routinize the science popularization practitioners training and cultivation and normalize corresponding science popularization textbooks; finally, construct science popularization professional cultivation system and science popularization staff training system, so as to lay a solid foundation of manpower for the long-term development of science popularization.

    Based upon investigations on domestic and overseas science and technology museums as well as literature review on museum exhibits, this paper summarizes past representative research findings on classification of exhibits in science and technology museums, attempting to conduct a further analysis on unexplored aspects of the classification of exhibits according to the principle of “Developing from inheritance, innovation from development”. The study tries to expand and supplement the classification methods to enrich research attainments in this field. It aims to provide references for future thematic plan and exhibit design for modern science and technology museums, so as to lead to a better functioning of museum exhibits discussed herein.

    The paper investigates how the supporters and opponents of genetically modified food (GMF) in two different QQ groups defend their own stands, and finds that both sides take advantages of existing local knowledge to construct their understanding of GMF risk. To some extent, traditional Chinese notions of nature and food act as a social amplifier of the risk.

    During the period of Westernization Movement in 19th century in China, the government exploited mines, built factories, ran schools, and managed translation of western books. Physics textbooks were also translated and introduced into China. At that time, the translated physics textbooks were mainly about the construction of knowledge system of physics, the function of scientific methods and the enlightenment of scientific spirit. Although there were some problems like over-emphasizing practical value orientation, neglecting basic theoretical knowledge, disconnecting teaching from learning in experimental research, it is doubtless that physics textbooks at that time were involved in the construction of scientific education system guided by “Chinese essence with Western utility”, and used in training the first group of science disseminators in modern China, which supported the Reform Movement and the 1911 Revolution with spiritual nourishment and ideological weapon. These physics textbooks were successful with their historical value of scientific enlightenment, accelerated to a certain extent the demise of the Qing Dynasty, and promoted the process of modernization of Chinese society.

    China set 2035 as its goal to march primarily into socialist modernization. To achieve this goal depends on the joint efforts of the whole society, as well as the human and intellectual support underpinned by public scientific literacy. Looking into the world in 2035, globalization and regional integration will be irresistible in trend. China may become the largest economic body, science and technology will become more engaged with industry. Moreover, in view of China’s progression by 2035, the country will achieve more balanced and adequate development. Economic development in China would be innovation-driven and consumption-led, with science and technology playing a more important role in industrial transformation. Such a situation provides an opportunity for the construction of public scientific literacy and requires that the construction must be reformed in terms of contents and methods.

    While many countries proposing projects and strategies for the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the ethical risks and governance of AI have also become the focus of the common world. Given the different social environments and cultural backgrounds in different regions, it is difficult to build a unified global framework for AI ethics and governance. China is generally more optimistic about the positive impact of AI on the well-being of the economy, society, enterprises, and individuals. However, the ethical risks of AI are not fictitious. On the one hand, while ordinary users enjoy various innovations and conveniences, they will inevitably be afraid of the abuse of personal data and the opacity of algorithmic decisions. On the other hand, developers also worry about the lack of ethical regulation which may make them pay a high price for the risks there arise. To eliminate this double anxiety, it is necessary to carry out “technical-ethical” assessment and correction, and to construct trust mechanism for AI. What’s more, it is important to build a robust and practicable framework for AI ethics, and to achieve agile governance based on full consideration of the social impact of AI, its compatibility within the whole world, and the baseline of maintaining peace.

    Clarkesworld, a world-renowned e-magazine for science fiction & fantasy, initiated a project of translating and showcasing Chinese short science fictions in 2015. Over a time span of five years, it has become a major platform which devotes consistently to introducing Chinese science fictions to international readers. Based on statistical analysis of translated Chinese science fictions in the Clarkesworld, this paper attempts to offer a panoramic view on the translation and acceptance of contemporary Chinese short science fictions in five aspects, namely, original authors, selection and quality of source texts, genres and themes, translators, and translation reviews.

    The research and application of artificial intelligence (AI) has launched its way from 1950’s to 21st century with the rapid development of computer and network technology, and has performed profound impacts on all levels of society. For science communication, AI is reconstructing itself in two dimensions, namely, technology driving and deep interaction. On the one hand, AI drives science communication to realize its fundamental reform which takes audience’s demand as internal driving force through technological revolutions; on the other hand, AI realizes the deep interaction between disseminators and audiences in science communication through big data of communication subject, netization of communicating media, and individualization of communication content.

    Artificial intelligence (AI) is applied to medicine and healthcare rapidly and becomes the frontier of medical innovation. It will bring great changes for traditional practices of medicine, health, and care. Based on investigation of frontier research, the paper sorted out the international development of medical AI for its innovations and application prospects. From the perspective of ‘public understanding of science’, public recognition and acceptance are crucial factors for the successful clinical application of medical AI. Therefore, various stakeholders from government, professional bodies, AI developers and other institutions should work together to provide channels for the public to participate in and understand the actual abilities as well as potential risks of medical AI. A sound regulatory system should be built so that the development of medical AI would conform to legal norms and ethical observance, and could obtain broad public support.
