ArchiveThis study uses Tu Youyou winning the Nobel Prize as an example to help understand scientific events in a variety of media platforms, such as traditional media and social media communications. Content analysis method is used to analyze traditional media and social media news reports. It’s easy to find in the research that social media pays higher attention than that of traditional media in this regard. The timeliness found on social media is pretty shorter than that of traditional media, but topics fade very quickly. As regards what they are concerned about, the event of issues are also different, traditional media are more biasedly congratulated where the public spread science knowledge. Social media platforms are more inclined to science communication in the “human” participation and controversial issue, meanwhile, social media science texts presented on quality, depth of content, and issues affecting traditional media, its role in science communication should not be ignored.
In order for the public scientific literacy improvement, innovative talent cultivation, and stable economic growth in the region, the promotion of scientific and technological popularization serves as an important policy in the field of science and technology education in China. This paper uses a number of statistic indicators (provincial funding for popular science, the popular science officer, science museums, popular science media, and popular science activities) on the scientific popularization service to study the regional difference of the relationship between science popularization service and economic development in China in 2010—2014. Firstly, the grey relation model is adopted to quantitatively calculate the relationship between science popularization service and economic development. Secondly, the spatial correlation analysis method is used to study inter provincial and provincial degree of spatial variability. It is found in the empirical study that there are significant regional differences in the correlation degree between provincial economic development. In addition, such correlation has a notable aggregation pattern when the spatial distribution of correlation degree is taken into account.
Personal Meaning Mapping (PMM) is a method of assessment proposed for museums, which is used to evaluate the process of how learning experience in museum takes effect on one’s understanding of the actual event. Unlike the traditional assessment methods, PMM focuses on the process and course of learning rather than “the right answer” from respondents, and can measure outcomes on scientific literacy in multi-dimensions. Therefore PMM is very suitable for the assessment in free-choice learning environment such as science museums. Nowadays, PMM is in its infancy and still has not attracted enough attendance especially in China. The paper will introduce the basic concept, application method and advantage of PMM, and analyze the application prospect of PMM on the basis of empirical research.
Top journal is often regarded as the representative of frontier scientific research results, information and knowledge-based intelligence analysis tend to be one of functional advantages and significant to information science field. It is crucial to understand the position of our country in the forefront of scientific development through an intelligence analysis of articles publicized in top scientific journals from China. In order to understand deeply the distribution structure of Chinese first author and corresponding author in top journals, the research regards Nature and Science as representatives based on bibliometrics. Selected papers of first author or corresponding author whose address are People’s R China between 2010—2015 explore it from seven aspects---quantity, discipline, cooperation nationalities, institutions, author, incited times and supporting fund, which shows the structure and situation of scientific achievements of China during recent 6 years.
Science communication in the age of massive information requires a distinct insight into the public. In this sense, observation on the features of Internet public opinion in science communication can be an effective approach. Based on the data sourced from an Internet public opinion monitoring system, these features are analyzed and concluded in the form of two types of analysis, namely, the contrastive analysis of public attention among different types of media, among the same type of media, and among different topics of popular science, as well as the trend analysis of the variation in public attention during different periods. The analytical results can provide references for the practice of science communication.
It is believed that how to collect opinions of the public and the media is always a challenge in the assessment of large science popularization activities. The assessment team of Peking University employ new media in the assessment of activities of National Science Day, 2015. The team accumulate the public’s opinions with Wechat, and evaluate the media’s opinions with Weibo and traditional news report. In this way, the team find such an improved access to data, and provide a new horizon for the assessment of large science popularization activities. Besides, the team also discuss some suggestions for promoting large science popularization activities with the help of the results of investigation.
In this paper, a questionnaire survey is used to study the understanding of the nature of science. This research mainly uses the scientific nature measurement scale made by oneself, and has made a survey on the undergraduate and graduate students of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The results show that the subjects have some understanding of the nature of science, but not ideal. There are quite a number of students who understand the nature of science from the logical positivism view. The students are permeated with scientism thoughts when it comes to understanding science. The students lack a knowledge of scientific professional ethics. Differences in gender, grade, subject categories, and work experience have significant differences in the cognition of the essence of science. On the basis of this, this paper analyzes the possible influencing factors of the present situation of the scientific nature of the subjects: the traditional science education, the science communication of the media and the study of the related courses.
This paper has analyzed the current situation of popular science writing research in China since the 21st century. Based on China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) as the data source, using the keyword clustering and burst detection function of CiteSpace, it is found that the method uses CiteSpace to analyze and summarize the research hotspot and its evolution characteristics from mass literature of CNKI is very feasible. By using this method, the paper expounds on the following six hotspots of popular science writing research in the new century: (1) research on the representative works of popular science books; (2) research on different subject disciplines of popular science writing; (3) research on the method and law of popular science writing; (4) research on renowned science writers; (5) research on the publication and dissemination of popular science writing works; (6) talent research of popular science writing. According to the results of the literature analysis, this paper further puts forward some counter measures and suggestions for the prospective popular science writing research.
As an important part of science popular service industry, popular science products expo could promote the exchange of popular science products, the technique and the experience sharing and the expansion of the domestic and international popular science market. The standard of exhibitors’ satisfaction is an important evaluation of the operated level of popular science products expo. This study chooses Shanghai International Popular Science Products Expo as a subject, builds a structural equation model of exhibitor’s satisfaction and analyzes the influence factors. In a nutshell, based on the field interview, some suggestions for optimizing popular science products expo are also provided at the end of this paper.
The use of augmented reality in book has become an increasingly popular methodology which has garnered large nationwide attention. Using augmented reality as a way in children’s science picture book publishing is becoming increasingly popular, the reason is that children are moving towards a new level of interaction with technology and their imagery thinking. As a study of parents’ attitude towards AR science picture book, detailed interviewing data were collected on 46 parents whose children are 5~6 years old in National Library of China for children. Results suggest that AR science picture book were well considered. But there is a considerable risk aversion, because being lack of solutions and studies regarding the values and disadvantages on application of AR technologies to children’s science learning and health. In a nutshell, the paper puts forward some implications for the use of augmented reality in children’s science picture books.
In order to meet the requirements in the information era, Jiangsu province have taken a number of corresponding and effective measures to implement “internet plus science popularization” action plan over the years, through which science popularization concept, content, channel, resource, and operating management are conducted in an extensive and profound manner. Thanks to the massive efforts over the years, a science popularization system featuring full-range coverage, diversified forms and rich content has come into being in Jiangsu, and the last mile “make science popularization easily accessible to the local communities” has been effectively resolved and connected.
