Non alcoholic fatty liver disease（NAFLD）has become the most common chronic liver disease in the world. The incidence rate is increasing year by year. In addition to causing serious damage to the liver itself，it is also an independent risk factor for systemic metabolic diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Autophagy is an important self-protection mechanism in the pathogenesis of NAFLD. According to the concept of“analogical analogy”in traditional Chinese medicine，it is believed that the pathogenesis of NAFLD caused by“Yang deficiency and Yin excess”is similar to that caused by autophagy. Therefore，this article analyzed the relationship between Yin-Yang and autophagy in NAFLD from the aspects of physiology，pathology，diagnosis and treatment. Exploring the micro level application of autophagy and the connection between Yin and Yang in traditional Chinese medicine to induce the restoration of“Yin-Yang balance”of the body and guide the treatment of NAFLD，that is，restoring autophagy function（Yang）and reducing lipid droplet deposition（phlegm dampness，blood stasis and other Yin pathogens），providing reference for theoretical research，clinical prevention and treatment of this disease.
