Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）is one of the“three seeds and one shell”of Jiangxi's authentic medicinal materials，with a long history and wide application.The author reviewed the historical evolution of the efficacy of Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）by consulting the works of materia medica.On this basis，taking the modern research of Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）as the starting point，the literature analysis has been carried out from the aspects of modern pharmacological effects，preparation design and clinical external research.According to the current status of its research，the existing problems were analyzed.For example，the research on the modern pharmacological effects of Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）focuses on anti-tumor，anti-inflammatory，hepatoprotective，anti-Alzheimer's disease，etc.，but now the research focuses on the corresponding cell model as the research object，and there is a lack of real-world research based on clinical needs.As an important medicine for acupuncture point application，Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）is often used externally to treat stubborn diseases，and can realize the“internal and external treatment”of a variety of nervous system diseases，cardiovascular system diseases and digestive system diseases.However，at present，there are many scattered clinical external use research reports，mostly focusing on some case reports，lacking in-depth mechanism exploration，and has not yet formed a standardized treatment system，and lacks a standardized collection and sorting of the experience of external use of Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）.In view of the problems of poor solubility，slow dissolution and low bioavailability of the main pharmacodynamic components such as evodiamine，rutaecarpine and limonin，it is expected to be devel-oped into a candidate drug for the effective treatment of tumors and inflammatory diseases through rational formulation design，such as nano-preparations，phospholipid complexes and inclusion complexes，but the research is limited to the bioavailability changes between the new preparation and the original drug and the quality evaluation of the preparation，and the lack of evaluation of the treatment effect of related diseases restricts the process of new drug creation.In this paper，the modern pharmacological effects，related dosage form design and clinical external use of Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）were systematically reviewed in recent years，in order to lay a foundation for the in-depth systematic research and development of topical preparations of Wuzhuyu（Euodiae Fructus）.
