Primary liver cancer（PLC）is referred to as“liver cancer”，the onset of which is insidious，and the patients are often in the advanced stage of the disease when they are diagnosed. Professor ZHOU Zhongying is good at identifying and treating diseases as a whole，and proposes that the common pathogenesis of acute and difficult diseases is a composite pathogenesis. Starting from the theory of compound pathogenesis，this paper explored the clinical diagnosis and treatment ideas of Professor ZHOU Zhongying in the treatment of PLC. It is believed that the combination of multiple pathological factors is the pathogenesis characteristic of PLC，among which damp-heat and blood stasis are the basic pathogenesis of PLC，and cancer metaplasia is the key link of PLC pathogenesis. Based on the theory of composite pathogenesis，the treatment of PLC can adopt the idea of multimethod combination and compound formula，which mainly included the treatment of vital Qi and evil spirits，the reconciliation of the five Zang-organs，the regulation of Qi，blood and fluid，and the treatment of anti-cancer and detoxification.
