Chaihu（Bupleuri Radix），as a commonly used Chinese medicinal herb，has the effects of relieving fever，soothing liver and relieving depression，lifting Yangqi，clearing gallbladder and intercepting malaria. It mainly contains saponins，flavonoids，polysaccharides，coumarins and other components，which have many pharmacological activities such as anti-inflammatory，analgesic，antidepressant，anti-tumor，anti-fibrosis and hypolipidemic effects. In the process of sorting out the relevant ancient books and processing specifications，it is found that Chaihu（Bupleuri Radix）has formed many processed varieties in the long history of medicine. However，the modern research mostly focuses on the raw products and vinegar-processed varieties of Chaihu（Bupleuri Radix），and in recent years，the research focus is also mainly on gene expression and Chaihu（Bupleuri Radix）prescription. By analyzing the literature research carried out in recent years，this paper summarized the herbal research，chemical composition and pharmacological effects to provide a reference for further exploration of the pharmacological effects and mechanisms of Chaihu（Bupleuri Radix）and its processed products.
