Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) has a long history of medicinal use and consumption in China, which is rich in saponins, polysaccharides, polyphenols, amino acids and proteins, sterols and other chemical compositions, with antioxidant, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, anti-tumor and regulating gastrointestinal functions and a variety of pharmacological effects in the field of medical treatment, food, health care and other areas of wide application. The paper systematically organized the chemical composition and pharmacological effects of Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae), and predicted and analyzed the quality marker (Q-Marker) of Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae) from four aspects, namely, plant affinity and characteristic components, potency, blood-accessible components and traditional Chinese medicine compounding, as well as through the network pharmacological evaluation, and preliminarily predicted that Stigmasterol, Kadsurenone, hancinone C and diosgenin can be used as Q-Markers, with a view to providing a basis for the clinical use and quality control of Shanyao (Rhizoma Dioscoreae).
