Baitouweng Decoction（白头翁汤）is a classic prescription for the treatment of heat-toxin-blood dysentery. It has pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-tumor, immunomodulatory and anti-diarrhea activities. In clinical practice, Baitouweng Decoction is mainly used to treat enteritis, colorectal cancer, bacillary dysentery, diarrhea and other diseases. In this article, it summarized the chemical constituents, pharmacological effects and clinical applications of Baitouweng Decoction in recent years, and the quality markers of Baitouweng Decoction were predicted and analyzed from the aspects of quality transfer and traceability, component specificity, effectiveness, measurability and compound compatibility environment. The quality markers of Baitouweng Decoction, such as anemoside A3, anemoside B4, pulsatilla saponin D, fraxetin, berberine, palmatine, coptisine, phellodendrine, esculin and esculetin, which provided the scientific reference for establishing and improving the quality control system of Baitouweng Decoction.
