To analyze a short-to-medium term prospective study based on carotid ultrasound and transcranial Doppler ultrasound evaluating the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine in the treatment of carotid artery stenosis.
Ninety patients with a diagnosis of carotid artery stenosis and meeting the surgical criteria for carotid endarterectomy（CEA）admitted to the hospital from January 2022 to December 2023 were selected for the study. They were divided into two groups according to the randomized numerical table method. Forty-five cases of the control group were treated with carotid endarterectomy，and forty-five cases of the observation group were treated with acupuncture in combination with carotid endarterectomy. The two groups' treatment effects，TCM symptom scores of two groups were compared and carotid ultrasound and transcranial Doppler color ultrasound were used to observe the changes in cerebral hemodynamic indexes before and after surgery，and the incidence of stroke or restenosis in six months of postoperative follow-up was compared.
The total effective rate of treatment in the observation group was 95.56%（43/45），which was much higher than that（75.56%，34/45）in the control group，and the difference between the two groups was not statistically significant（P<0.05）. The TCM symptom scores of the observation group were lower than those of the control group at 8，12 and 24 weeks postoperatively，and the values of peak systolic velocity（PSV）and end diastolic velocity（EDV）were lower than those of the control group at 8，12 and 24 weeks postoperatively，and the values of MCA-PSV and MCA-PI were higher than those of the control group（P<0.05）. At 6 months of follow-up，there was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of stroke or restenosis between the two groups（P>0.05）.
- Carotid endarterectomy combined with acupuncture in the treatment of carotid artery stenosis has a clear short-to-medium term effect，which can effectively improve the patients' symptoms，reduce the thickness of the carotid intima-media and carotid plaque formation，promote the improvement of the cerebral hemodynamic indexes，and reduce the incidence of postoperative adverse events such as restenosis，which has a positive effect on the improvement of the prognosis.
