Alzheimer＇s disease（AD）is a common neurodegenerative disease characterized by impaired learning and memory abilities and cognitive dysfunction，which seriously affects the psychological health and living status of patients.Berberine（BBR）is an alkaloid compound extracted from plant-based Chinese drugs，and has various pharmacological effects such as anti-oxidant，anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects and potential development prospects.In recent years，an increasing number of articles have shown that BBR can effectively prevent and treat AD through multiple pathways.However，there is currently a lack of systematic summary on the prevention and treatment of AD with BBR.Therefore，the article mainly summarized the physicochemical properties of BBR，reviewed the experimental research mechanism of BBR in treating AD in the past five years at home and abroad，and summarized the mechanism of BBR in preventing and treating AD by reducing Aβproduction and inhibiting Tau protein hyperphosphorylation，neuronal apoptosis and oxidative stress.This provided a scientific basis and new research ideas for future research on BBR in prevention and treatment of AD.
