Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex）is a commonly used drug pair for nourishing Yin and clearing heat in modern clinical practice.After the compatibility of the two drugs，they are good at eliminating dampness and heat in the lower Jiao，and play an important role in clinical medication.This article summarized the best extraction process of Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex）and the effective components of this drug pair，such as anemarsaponin C，mangiferin，palmatine，tetrandrine and so on.Different compatibility ratios of Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex）also affect the dissolution，exposure and absorption of different active ingredients.Modern pharmacological studies have found that Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex）has multi-target characteristics in the treatment of different diseases.It has pharmacological activities such as hypoglycemic and lipid-lowering effect，anti-inflammatory，anti-oxidation，reversal of muscle atrophy and protection of neurons.It may involve AMPK，AKT，NF-κB，mTOR and many other pathways to exert its pharmacological effects.In modern clinical practice，prescriptions composed of Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex）are also commonly used to treat prostatitis，seminal emission caused by seminal vesiculitis and menopausal syndrome，such as Zhibai Dihuang Pills（知柏地黄丸），Sizhi Huangbai Pills（四制黄柏丸），Dabuyin Pills（大补阴丸），Zishen Pills（滋肾丸），etc.This article mainly reviewed Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex）from the aspects of chemical composition，pharmacological action and modern clinical application，in order to provide reference for the further development and utilization of Zhimu（Anemarrhenae Rhizoma）-Huangbai（Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex），and provided ideas and basis for the future clinical application and related research of the drug pair.
