Sweat is one of the five fluids of the human body，and sweating is the first treatment methods among the eight traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）treatments.Starting from Huangdi Neijing，TCM has a rich understanding and expound on sweat，which has been continuously supplemented and improved by generations of medical practitioners，gradually forming a systematic and original theory of sweat.Sorting out and inheriting the original sweat theory of TCM is the foundation and prerequisite for innovating and developing sweat theory of TCM.This article systematically summarized the discussions of TCM on the generation，distribution，metabolism，pathogenesis，disease detection and sweating treatment，aiming to promote the continuous exploration and clinical application of sweat theory in future clinical practice，the scientific connotation of original sweat theory interpretation with the help of modern science and technology，and the development of sweat theory in adhering to principles and innovation.
