Ischemic stroke is a common clinical cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease. At present, the incidence of ischemic stroke in China is at a rapid rising stage, exceeding the global average growth level. The molecular mechanism is complex, and the prognosis is poor. After standardized treatment, the patients may still leave a variety of sequelae, mainly including cognitive function and physical motor dysfunction, which can seriously threaten human health. The application effect of modern rehabilitation therapy in patients with ischemic stroke is limited, and the rehabilitation process is long and the effect is slow, which increases the difficulty of cooperation and the benefit of patients is limited. The disorder of Qi and blood and the imbalance of Yin and Yang are the general pathogenesis of sequelae of stroke. Acupuncture therapy is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine, which makes up for the shortcomings of modern medical treatment. It can be treated through the conduction effect of meridians and acupoints as well as specific manipulations. This article reviewed the promotion effect of acupuncture on cognitive function and rehabilitation of physical motor dysfunction after ischemic stroke, further clarified the relevant mechanism of acupuncture in patients with ischemic stroke, revealed the multi-target,multi-layer and multi-pathway characteristics of acupuncture, and pointed out the existing problems and shortcomings of current research so as to provide theoretical basis and method reference for the rehabilitation treatment of patients in the future.
