Thermal Power Generation is supervised by China Huaneng Group Co., Ltd., and sponsored by both Xi'an Thermal Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. and Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering. It is an important journal of thermal energy and power discipline and energy and power technology, which mainly reports the theoretic researches of thermal energy and power technology and the development and utilization of energy and power technology (thermal energy, nuclear energy, geothermal and other renewable energy power generation), as well as the development trends of thermal power science and technology in China and other countries.

 

2 The First Sponsor's Advantage

Xi'an Thermal Power Research Institute Co., Ltd. (TPRI) is an institution and scientific and technological enterprise engaged in research and development of energy and power technology in China. Its primary specialties were founded in Beijing in 1951 and then moved to Xi'an in 1965 to establish Xi'an thermal Research Institute. It had directly belonged to the Ministry of Fuel Industry, the Ministry of Electric Power Industry, the Ministry of Water Resources and Electric Power, the Ministry of Energy and the State Electric Power Corporation sequentially. During this period, with the adjustment of the names of ministries and commissions, it was renamed as Thermal Energy and Engineering Research Institute of the Ministry of Electric Power Industry (1994), Thermal Energy and Engineering Research Institute of the State Electric Power Corporation (1998) and Thermal Energy and Engineering Research Institute of of State Grid (2001). In 2003, with the reform of national power system, it became a limited liability company controlled by China Huaneng Group and participated by China Datang Group, China Huadian Group, China Guodian Group (later restructured into National Energy Investment Group) and China Power Investment Group (later restructured into National Power Investment Group). In 2020, after equity adjustment, it became a limited liability company controlled by China Huaneng Group and participated by China Huadian Group, National Energy Investment Group and National Power Investment Group.

Over the past seven decades, TPRI has successfully accomplished a variety of national key projects and made significant contributions to the modernization of China's electric power industry. Now TPRI has established a well-staffed and efficient research team covering all specialties of thermal power generation and owning advanced and complete test facilities and equipment. It has the National Engineering Research Center for Clean Coal Combustion of Power Station Boilers Awarded by the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Energy Clean and Efficient Thermal Power Generation Technology R&D Center Awarded by the National Energy Administration, the State Key Laboratory of Coal Based Clean Energy Awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Shaanxi Coal-fired Power Station Boiler Environmental Protection Engineering Technology Research Center Awarded by the Department of Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province. Besides, TPRI has one post doctoral station and one master degree granting point. It is the affiliated unit of the Secretariat of the International Electrotechnical Commission/Steam Turbine Technical Committee (IEC/TC). At the same time, it is also the affiliated unit of 2 professional technical standards committees at the national level, 7 professional technical standards committees in the power industry, 5 centralized quality inspection centers in the power industry and 5 professional committees of China Society of Electrical Engineering.

TPRI is proud of its 1200+ highly talented and motivated employees, over 64% of whom hold either a doctoral degree or a master degree.

Now, TPRI dedicates itself to advanced power generation technology, production and operation, and industrialization. Around key fields such as energy conservation and environmental protection, water treatment and zero wastewater discharge, new energy, intelligent power station, metal materials, power station chemistry, gas turbine and distributed energy, nuclear power and electricity, it focuses on cleaning coal utilization, intellectualization and new material technology, and has actively carried out scientific and technological research and development, technical services and industrialization promotion and application from three aspects such as frontier technologies, cross-specialty major common comprehensive technologies and practical application special technologies, and achieved fruitful scientific and technological achievements.

TPRI has extensive cooperation and technical exchanges with many countries and international organizations, and maintains close cooperation and contact with many well-known power groups, companies, manufacturers and scientific research institutions in the world.

 

3 Discipline Advantage

Thermal Power Generation is a notable technical journal in the field of thermal energy and power engineering in China. It publishes reviews as well as full-length papers that cover a broad spectrum of the latest technological breakthroughs, trends, concepts, and discoveries related to the energy and power industry, with technical and scientific research personnel engaged in power engineering in China being its primary target readers. At present, high quality papers are being accepted from major research institutes and colleges throughout China.

Papers pubulised in Thermal Power Generation are mainly relevant to energy and power generation engineering, such as:

Thermal Power Generation has gained widespread attentions ever since its founding. According to the Annual Report for Chinese Academic Journal Impact Factors (Natural Science · 2022 Edition)Thermal Power Generation’s academic journal clout Index (CI) reaches 910.527, which continues to rank first in 56 journals in energy and power engineering dicipline in China.

The journal publishes approximately 280 paper annually, and gained 220 200 downloads only in China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database in 2022. The journal website is clicked by about 112 000 times per year.

 

4 Aims and Scope

Thermal Power Generation aims to promote the progress of power generation technology and the development of energy and power discipline in China, and reports research achievements in the field of energy and power engineering at home and abroad.

Papers focusing on conventional and renewable energy power generation technologies, energy storage technologies and energy saving technologies, emission reduction technologies, power station automatic control technologies and any new technologies involved in power generation process are welcome. In 2023, high quality papers related to the following subjects (include but not limited) will be given priority:

1) Clean, flexible and efficient power generation technologies for thermal power plants;

2) Advanced power cycle technologies, including supercritical carbon dioxide cycle power generation technology and others;

3) Energy storage technologies and their typical application on power side;

4) Carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage technologies;

5) Intelligent control and localization technologies of power equipment;

6) New power generation technologies, such as photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind energy, hydrogen energy and distributed energy;

7) Construction of low-carbon energy system for carbon neutralization;

8) Sludge and biomass coupled power generation technologies;

9) Development and new technologies application of circulating fluidized bed boiler;

10) Energy Internet technologies.

 

5 Peer Review

After initial screening by editors, the manuscripts are then rigorously peer-reviewed for originality, significance, organization, presentation and clarity via double-blind review by at least three anonymous experts who have no interest conflict with the authors. If the expert does not provide the review result after 2 weeks, the editorial department will urge him/her to return the review result as soon as possible or invite another expert to replace him/her. Then, an associate chief editor will review the paper which has passed the experts' review. Only with the approval from all reviewers can the paper be finally published.
