A world cultural heritage contains a wealth of scientific thought, method and spirit which is worth digging and communication. On the basis of sorting out the relevant international documents, this paper gives definition to the scientific value components of world cultural heritage, tells about field researches to some selections of China’s world cultural heritage which facilitates the understanding of the current situation of local science popularization of world cultural heritage, further discusses the interaction between the varying values of world cultural heritage, and proposes an science popularization approach for deep integration of scientific value of world cultural heritage with other values.
Scientific interest is an important content and the goal of science education, and is a core issue that has long been concerned in the research field of science education. Based on the empirical investigation of more than ten thousand students across the nation, we analyzed the situation of adolescents’ scientific interest in China and found out existing problems relating to the cultivation of scientific interest, such as that family education advantage has not been effectively utilized, training methods are lack of diversity and scientific practice, the educational function of science museums is failed to make good use, and significant differences exist in different adolescent groups. We finally make suggestions from each aspect of government, family, school and science museums as what they could do concerning the cultivation of adolescents’ scientific interest.
The progress of popular science is correlated to the given political, economic, cultural, and social contexts in historical stages, thus we can describe each different stage with the transition of paradigm, meanwhile each paradigm’s appearance and transition is due to some kind of “deficit”. Based on the analysis of each paradigm, this paper attempts to carry out some reflections, thereby proposes some worthwhile perspectives for theoretical and practical research.
Scientific argumentation is an important part of the current development of science education. Enhancing teenagers’ scientific argumentation ability plays an important role in enhancing their scientific literacy. In order to improve teenagers’ ability of scientific argumentation, it is necessary to enhance their understanding of the basic structural elements of scientific argumentation, and purposely direct them to the ability to organize evidence and construct opinions by reasoning, identify weak points of scientific argumentation and reasonably refute them. The teaching strategies of cultivating teenagers’ scientific argumentation ability mainly include creating a good environment for scientific argumentation, elaborately designing the teaching content of scientific argumentation, reasonably using the teaching model of scientific argumentation, making effective use of the teaching support of scientific argumentation, and flexibly applying the evaluation criteria of scientific argumentation.
Popular science in border ethnic villages is the tough nut in rural science popularization. It is an urgent problem to be solved in exploring models of science popularization suitable for border ethnic villages to improve the effect of popular science. Taking Mantan village in Jiangcheng county of Yunnan province as an example, this paper analyzes the characteristics of popular science service in villages. It discusses the existing problems in the current popular science service models and communicating forms intended for the village ethnic groups living in border regions. To crack the nut, it suggests that specifying the objects of popular science, innovating communicating forms as well as carrying out participatory popular science training are applicable approaches to improve the popular science effect in the border ethnic villages.
In view of the problems existing in the cultivation of young people’s scientific and technological innovation quality, based on the experience at home and abroad as well as more than 20 years of research and practice, this paper explores and puts forward the ways to cultivate young people’s scientific and technological innovation quality, mainly including: creating a creative environment, implementing Thinking-Based Instruction, promoting curriculum reform, carrying out early training of top-notch talents and cultivating creative teachers.
How to build an 'intelligent science and technology museum’ with the benefit of 5G technology in the era of informatization wave of AI? This paper has reviewed the existing researches of intelligent museums and expounds the application of 5G technology in developing intelligent science and technology museums. By researching into the needs of relevant roles of the intelligent science and technology museums, this paper analyzes the elementary constructs of intelligent science and technology museums in 5G era in terms of their smart features of communication, service, operation and management. And it also studied the basic technical framework from three layers as of foundation, data and application. To end with, the paper makes brief analysis of the practices of the National Marine Museum of China and the new Hubei Science and Technology Museum.
Under the construction background of “new engineering”, the management mode and construction mechanism of science bases in colleges and universities need to be brought out of the rut and innovated. Neo-construction philosophy is put forward by the science base of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), the exhibition hall of “physical exploration”, based on the requirement of “new engineering”. Relying on its science and education resources, the base has made breakthroughs: the innovation and practice ability of college students is enhanced and the scientific literacy of primary and middle school students are cultivated through a series of exploration and practice that include improving the management system, creating a science popularization team, setting up specialty courses as well as opening and sharing. The practical methods and results are discussed. Meanwhile, the experience and prospect of college science bases relating higher education and science communication are proposed, which provides useful reference for the construction of the science bases in universities under the guidance of “new engineering”.
Juvenile Pictorial was first published in 1937 and stopped publishing in 1941. It was China’s first youth pictorial and the earliest youth popular science magazine in China. Through a comprehensive analysis of the content of the publication, this paper finds that Juvenile Pictorial once fully took into consideration, in its operation, the cognitive characteristics, thinking mode, and knowledge base of young people, and took natural sciences, applied technology, social art and current affairs news as its main contents, presenting a scenario of its characteristics of combining science with interest, humanities, technology as well as the War of Resistance against Japan. The publication span of Juvenile Pictorial coincided with the most difficult stage of the War, which witnessed its positive efforts to improve the scientific literacy of young people, enhance their practical ability and cultivate their patriotic feelings and social responsibility in the special period. It also has certain reference and enlightenment value for the development of contemporary popular science journals.
Facing the opportunities and challenges of the new era, human resources have become a key resource for national scientific and technological progress and development. The cultivation of young scientific and technological talents directly affects the future of national scientific and technological enterprise. As an important aspect of the cultivation of young scientific and technological talents, the development of informal education is realistic, urgent and necessary. Based on an international perspective, this article reviews the current situation of the cultivation of young scientific and technological talents in informal education, reflects on several issues concerned and puts forward countermeasures in this regard. We argue that the quality of young science and technology talent cultivation should be improved by increasing policies support, promoting the connection between formal education and informal education, and developing STEAM education.
