Some thought on how to do a great job in science popularization lectures and prospective dream for science popularization endeavors are also illustrated in the paper. In a nutshell, the author hopes to put more energy and time on producing original science popularization works in the future.
Science education develops quickly and it has reaped remarkable achievements for the recent 20 years. As the most important forum for international science education community, JRST has kept track of its development and growth. Therefore, the paper systematically analyzes 20 years’ papers of JRST by six variables involving the topic, subject content, research object and research style to describe the research’s current situation and frontier picture of international science education, and sums up five suggestions for the related researches in China.
Based on the CNKI database, the paper conducts a statistical analysis of the academic literature regarding science museums stored on CNKI from Jan, 1985 to Dec, 2015. The analysis is manifested in the aspects such as the total published papers on science museums, institutes, writers, the way which are used to publish the papers, and the featured traits of the research outputs at the corresponding phases. In a nutshell, the paper epitomizes the current situation and problems facing academic research in the area of science museums over the 30 years, and subsequently puts forward some measures.
Public understanding of air pollution alludes to a series of psychological responses to air pollution from the general public, including how the atmospheric environment is perceived, what attitudes they have towards pollution, and how people assess it, etc. The issue stems from the public’s reaction to the residents’ complaint about the smoke nuisance. While at the present times, the research on the public understanding of air pollution facilitates the potential prediction of public acceptance of the pollution control measures and provides public data support to the development of environmental management and education. The paper reviews recent work in the field of public understanding research, such as pollution nuisance, environmental psychology and risk perception, and also traces back to its root of environment history. The paper concludes itself by emphasizing the great significance of public understanding as public opinions in environmental management and education.
Scientific literacy is a continuously evolving concept with theoretical and practical connotations. When referring to the evaluation of civic scientific literacy, we should combine new content and new change of the concept with local practice and actual demand for the purpose of monitoring the development of Chinese civic scientific literacy objectively and accurately. This paper analyzes the new trend of the evaluation of civic scientific literacy from the perspectives of the evolution of scientific literacy, the innovation of survey method, the improvement of scientific literacy in the internet era. In a nutshell, some suggestions are put forward regarding the prospective evaluation of civic scientific literacy in the paper.
Nuclear safety is a very popular topic on the internet, and the online survey on the nuclear safety awareness and attitude by the netizen and the nuclear science communication are of great importance for the academy and the application in China. The paper uses the online survey with random sampling to measure the Nuclear Safety Awareness and Attitude of Chinese net users as well as the degree of the Nuclear Science Communication in China. The results show that most of people have a limited knowledge in science communication, while they have a high trust upon the Chinese Nuclear Power Plants, yet they don’t like to build more plants in future. The male have a higher nuclear power knowledge level than that of the female, whereas the higher education they have, the more they are against building nuclear power plants in future. Specially, the respondents with the age of more than 50 years old have the highest level of science communication about nuclear safety, while the lowest is for the group of less than 35 years old who embody the negative attitude to build more nuclear power in China. According to the survey data, some revelations on Nuclear Science Communication should be studied in China in the future.
The earthquake disaster, usually classified as the “the most calamitous disaster”, is always happening in a sudden, strong and destructive manner, and is prone to causing the secondary disaster, thus it is highly concerned by the users. Based on the Baidu massive user behavior data, the paper conducts an analysis of the search behavior tendency and trait of the specific keywords “earthquake” by utilizing Baidu index. By doing so, the needs of the users and the the tendency of public opinions on the media are explored for the purpose of coming up with the optimal strategy concerning how to handle science popularization work having to do with earthquake prevention and disaster reduction.
Museum industry has a long history of development, and its exhibition creation mode also has established a kind of mature theoretical system both in the traditional pattern of “horizontal cooperation” mode and “vertical division of labor” mode, and in the “curator” mode which was originated in the western world. In recent years, Chinese museums have introduced the “curator” system and restructured and optimized it gradually, that move has improved the quality of exhibitions remarkably. Science center started late in China, because of the fact that there remains a large gap in organization and team construction, still, the exhibition creation mode hasn’t been formed fully. In the paper, based on the the analysis and comparison of the exhibition creation mode between museum and science center, the author hopes to promote the level of scientific exhibition especially in the aspects of organization system, curator team collaboration, and implementation of project management by taking the museum curator system for reference.
The Chinese Science Fiction only has a history of over one hundred years, but its development has experienced twists and turns. During a few rounds of new upsurges, there come several generations of science fiction writer groups in sequence. Based on the result of periodization of the Cenozoic and Pleistocene era writers by the Chinese science fiction theoretical cycle, this study sequentially analyses the characteristics of the times for the works and writers in different periods, the ideas guiding creation in the literature, and the kinds of content categories. It concludes that the Chinese science fiction writer groups can be divided into the Paleozoic era, the Mesozoic era, the Cenozoic era, the Pleistocene era and the Holocene era, 5 eras in total.

Whereas, in Dawn on Me the author shows the endless beauty of technology as well, a more metaphysical concept over the technology, setting a keynote for the novel. Just like the title, Dawn on Me presents a kind of sublime and detachment beauty both in character shaping, story structuring, even in expression of the connotation of the novel. All of this is based on a praise of human’s endless spirit to explore knowledge and the unknown.
The Outline of Science is a senior science popularization book edited by John Arthur Thomson (1861—1933), a British biologist, a naturalist as well as a famous writer of science popularization. Its Chinese translation KexueDagang was published by the Commercial Press in the 1920s. It could be used as a typical study case of science communication in the Republic of China. In this paper, the concepts of science communication in The Outline of Science and its influence are discussed by studying the text of The Outline of Science, its Chinese translation and reviews at that time. It comes to the conclusions that the Chinese translation and its selling price could not satisfy the readers at that time, which had some adverse impacts on the science communication. In addition, the scientific interest, which gains focus on in Thomson’s works, was emphasized in science communication, but the importance of the way of scientific understanding and the dynamic development of science have not been fully disseminated.
Science museum is a gradually developing public cultural and educational facility during the period of the Republic of China, which exerts substantial and positive impacts on the popularization of science and people’s science and education during the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. Guizhou Provincial Science Museum, as the typical one among many museums in the Republic of China is worth studying. The paper mainly focuses on the following aspects including construction process, organizational structure and scientific popularization of Guizhou Provincial Science Museum, which explores its influences on the popularization of the social sciences, and makes further discussions and reflections on the science popularization and education function of science museum.
