ArchiveThis article reports on a study of the development and characteristics of pupils' creative imagination. Data consisted of 2 160 pupils from grades1 through 6. Findings showed that pupils' creative imagination increased as the grade in school increased from grades 1 through 6, there was a statistically significant difference between pupils of any grades, whichrevealed that creative imagination continued to grow with an increase in grade level. Results also showed that there was an increasing trend in four dimensions of creative imagination. Finally, the article discussed some suggestions for improving the pupils' creative imagination.
The primary and middle school students' image of scientists is a part of cognition about science, which has effects on the students' willingness to be scientists in the future. By comparing the primary and middle school students' image of scientists, the article examines the impact which scientific education and media has made on the communication of the scientists' images. Also, this article shows different understanding of science, different level of admiration to scientists, different cognition of scientists' social status, different positive and negative image of scientists, different impact on their future career attitude on different age students. Meanwhile this article puts forward some suggestions to the relationship between science communication and scientists' image.
Based on the analysis of a national-wide sampling survey, this paper explores the impact of the internet-based new media on the public image of Chinese scientists. The results show that the importance of TV as a source of S&T information is descending, while the importance of internet is ascending rapidly. The rapid development of internet brings both benefits and challenges for building up a “good” public image of Chinese scientists. For instance, compared with people taking TV as the most important information source, those taking internet as the most important information source have significantly a less stereotypical, while more negative, image of scientists.
In science communication, new media is an important intermediary, discourse is the realization carrier and affinity is the important “emotional intelligence”, which is also considered as the core of communication arts. Affinity is used as an “adhesive” to shorten the distance between public and science, directly related to the effects of scientific communication. New media reflects its complex, open and dynamic contextual characteristics. The paper focused on close and complicated relationship between new media, science communication, discourse and affinity to study how to strengthen the vitality and effectiveness in science communication. The concept of “virtual context of new media technology” is provided in this essay for the first time, in which discourse was discussed on the affinity construction in science communication.
This paper takes the scientific squirrelssina micro-blog as the research object, analyzing the 7745 micro-blogs from the beginning until 2013.8.31. This paper analyzes the number, the value-added of information, the distribution of content, subject and the effect of communication, then summarizes its characteristics of communication. We select two typical micro-blogs which are the principal content of the science communication into visualized analysis, put forward the corresponding suggestions in order to boost the long-term developments of micro-blogs' science communication.
The human cognition from low to high is divided into data, information, knowledge and wisdom of these four levels in knowledge management systems. These four levels cover the interaction between man and the outside world of human cognition. The World Development Report published in 1988 took Knowledge and Development as its theme, it says that data is organized numbers, words, sounds, and images. Information is data which processed and arranged in a meaningful form. Knowledge is valuable information for the production. Wisdom is the comprehensive ability to use data, information and knowledge. As a cognitive activity, the content of science communication is nothing less than performance into data, information, knowledge and wisdom. This paper selects a number of children popular science booksat home and abroad, and takes a comparative analysis on these books. The purpose is to summarize the similarities and differences, thus propose constructive comments and ideas to increase the quality of our children popular science works.
The school is the best place to implement disaster education, and there is no survey research about Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Literacy of senior student until now. By geographic divisions, the sample was selected in different schools from Beijing, Heilongjiang, Tianjin, Fujian, Shanghai, Guangdong provinces, with a total of 8313 valid questionnaires. The findings showed that: the attitude towards DPML is high level comparing to the skill and knowledge of DPML, we should build disaster education curriculum system to promote the implement of disaster education
Modern biology knowledge was transferred into China with the influx of western missionaries. In order to adapt to the needs of the schools set up by churches, the missionaries compiled the earliest biology textbooks. A number of new primary and secondary schools were established after the Renyin-Kuimao Educational System was put into practice by the Qing government. A large number of biology textbooks were published by the Qing government, government-run institutions of all levels, civil bookstores and some schools, most of which were translated from Japanese textbooks. Compared with the government-run institutions, civil bookstores occupied the main market of school textbooks. Although not yet mature, primary and secondary school biology textbooks in the late Qing Dynasty played a groundbreaking role for the later compilation and publication of biology textbook.
Science Popularization was one of the important measures implemented by the Chinese Communist Party for constructing the Shan-Gan-Ning Border Region. The science popularization in the Border Region was adhered to the ‘science serving for the war’ rule. The Party's theorists proposed some judgments about ‘scientific methods should be in accordance with the task of science’ and ‘theory should be in accordance with practice’. Practically the Party emphasized the training of cadres or technical cadres, the education of the mass, solving the urgent problems encountered by the mass with scientific methods, and formulating many policies or laws. The authority of the Border Region founded some science institutions, propagandized and reported science and technology positively, and held exhibitions. The Party also encouraged the cadres to blend in with the mass, solve problems with science and technology. All the practices acquired good results, which defended the Border Region effectively, united the mass and the Party together firmly, and laid the foundation of successive triumph. The theories and practices of science popularization in Shan-Gan-Ning Border Region influenced science popularization of PRC drastically and historically.
Lu Zuofu was a famous industrialist in the modern society. By analyzing current historical materials, we find that Lu is also a prominent educator and science communicator. Here, his thought and practice of science education and his practice have been summarized and discussed. Furthermore, based on the above analysis, an objective appraisal on Lu's science education engagement is made.
