ArchiveDoubt, criticism and opposition to science restrict and hinder science communication in society. Not only do they challenge scientific epistemology and methodology in the academic world, but also reject science spirit, science culture and its social value in the public sphere. Based on investigating the conflicts between social and cultural trends of restricting and hindering the spread of science and science communication, an analytical framework of reference will be provided in order to guard against the negative effects of these trends.
Shenzhen's high-tech enterprises rely on their own technological innovation advantage, under the main drive of the enterprise internal dynamics, using a variety of ways to carry out science and technology communication, the communication of science and technology has got good effects, showing a good prospect of high-tech enterprise to promote science communication, improving enterprise science and technology innovation and science communication to promote good relations. The practice of Shenzhen has some experience and enlightenment, such as double subjects (innovation and science communication subjects), improving the integrated dynamic mechanism, improving the mode of action, the paths of independent innovation and so on.
The scientific visualization is the research domain of the computer graphics. It has close relation with other subjects. Besides, it is widely applied in the domain of research, science education, and science popularization. This paper focuses on the scientific visualization from the viewpoint of science communication and graphic communication. Starting from the visual form difference of the domestic and foreign achievements, it points out that the scientific visualization generates new form through constant evolution under new social environment. Besides, it analyzes three-layer communication relation during the process of scientific visualization. Moreover, it indicates that, with the increasing degree of the public understanding and participation in science, 5W elements of the scientific visualization has already been changed. Under new historical background, researching and improving communication effect of scientific visualization from the viewpoint of the communication has become a new subject.
Research about attitudes toward science in China started in the early 1990s, and we were suffering a shortage of scholars and research institutions in this field. Under the guidance of the Outline of Civic Scientific Literacy Action Plan (2006-2010-2020), our country has included the “public attitudes toward science” into the scientific literacy evaluation system as the core element. Started with the attitude research theories, this article reviewed and summarized research about attitudes toward science. We finally proposed the insufficiency in the direction of the research about attitudes toward science.
For years, the importance and the sensitivity of the GM food safety issue have tightened every nerve in the world, especially in China, which is still facing major food safety problems. In 2012, a nutrition experiment exploring the potential of genetically modified Golden Rice was massively criticized in a Greenpeace blog post and subsequently attracted worldwide attention. It became the topic of sensationalized media coverage for a sustained period of time in China. It points to the critical importance of the public in enforcing scientific ethics and morality in doing a scientific research. It concludes that public communication plays a major role in the governance of science.
New media, because of its achievements of information technology, has become a new form of science communication and important channel, it has the immediacy, interactivity, visibility, and other advantages different from the traditional media and favored by the public. In order to make good use of new media, popularization of science and technology (PST) must adapt to the characteristics of new media, popularization of science and technology (PST), should carry out the “micro-PST”, making new media better work for popularization of science and technology (PST) and improving civic scientific literacy.
Modern botanic gardens have multiple roles, including conducting scientific research on botany, promoting biodiversity reservation and protection, and enhancing public engagement in science through education. This paper reviews the development of botanic gardens in the United Kingdom to identify the roles of these institution undertook in different phases. Moreover, this paper examines the school education programs offered by the British botanic gardens. Finally, some suggestions are offered for the development of botanic garden education in China. These suggestions include: (1) highlighting the educational role of the botanic gardens; (2) developing school education programs based on the requirements of the national curriculum; (3) enhancing the collaborative relationship between the botanic garden and local schools; and (4) offering teacher training programs to local schools.
Science popularization talents construction program is a significant measure, which emerges as Science Popularization Talents Planning Program of China Association for Science and Technology Requires. The cultivation of enterprises talents of SP is the core of the program. With the sample of science talents in steel industry in 29 cities 17 provinces and on the basis of open-ended questionnaire and statistic analysis of quanlitiztion, this paper tries to work outs the cycle, time and will of enterprises talents of SP training. What's more, starting with the contents and prerequisite competence of enterprises talents of SP training, we establish the curriculum system of the training. The research result can not only offer a new perspective for the development of our enterprises talents of SP, also provide a new mirror for the exploration and training of other science popularization talents.
According to the previous research, we have found that the study on science games is still staying in an early stage. Firstly, this paper analyzed the interaction between science popularization and games, then the author pointed out the contradiction between the educational function of science popularization and the entertainment function of games, and the correlation between science popularization and digital games because of the overlapped target population and audience's active involvement, and the combination between the two fields for respecting on scientific law and game rule. Finally, this paper discussed the integration of science popularization and digital games and suggested on how to develop science games.
This paper reviews the development of science popularization in China history, based on the literature review, statistics, analysis of the status quo of China's science and technology popularization. Then it put forward development strategies and recommendations.
To investigate the cognition and intention of Guangzhou residents' knowledge in food safety so as to provide a basis for popular education on food safety. Questionnaires were distributed to 412 residents selected in random to enquire about their knowledge on food safety. Results show Guangzhou citizens have a strong interest in food safety knowledge, and believe that the present education on food safety is urgent in demand. For them, the most trusted source of popular science on food safety is professional agencies, the most favorite form of education is television and broadcasts, and the most concerned knowledge is how to choose quality food. Age and education level have proven to have a impact on their intention on food safety science popularization. So in order to improve public knowledge on food safety, we should carry out education on food safety science according to the needs and interests of the citizens.
Studies indicate that the images of scientists portrayed on TV screens would significantly influence the public understanding of scientists and science. As one type of TV programs, TV commercials have certain particularities in shaping the images of scientists due to its commercial purposes. Advertisers would fully take into account the target audiences' psychological expectations. They would take advantage of the target audiences' trust and worship towards scientists and science to achieve persuasive communication. The images of scientists shaped in this way follow certain paradigms, and possess some common features. This article, from the perspective of science communication, analyzes the features of the scientists' images portrayed in TV commercials and further explores the reasons for these features. The possible influence of the scientists' images shaped in TV commercials upon science communication is also discussed thoroughly in this paper.
МoИльин was a engineer and a writer on science literature in the former Soviet Union. In Ильин's mind, it was his own responsibility to develop science literature, and he wrote many works on science literature which had international effects. He also did good research on the theory of science literature. Ильин often emphasized two basic points on writing popular science: the first is doing best to fully understand science, and the second is the works must have certain degree literariness. So, the writer must pay attention to the literature. Today, the ideas of Ильин are still quite right, and must insist on the process of writing an article or a book on popular science.
