According to the seminar held by the Science Fiction Training Camp organized by the China Research Institute for Science Popularization and the Science and Imagination Center of Southern University of Science and Technology, the history of Chinese Sci-Fi films can be traced back to The Invisibility Cloak, produced by Happy Pictures in 1925. It came out 14 years earlier than the premiere of Shanghai Beach in Sixty Years Later (1939), which is commonly considered to be the pioneering work of Chinese science fiction films. The Invisibility Cloak was created under the influence of American Keystone's comedies (slapstick) and science fiction about invisibility, which also bears the imprint of traditional Chinese comics. Therefore, it can become a valuable subject of a cross-genre, cross-cultural, and time-transgressive science fiction research, enriching the aesthetics of Sci-Fi films.

Feminist historian of science Londa Schiebinger, in her book Plants and Empire:Colonial Bioprospecting in the Atlantic World, centered on Caesalpinia pulcherrima as an example, describes the collection and circulation of knowledge of exotic plants by the Europeans in the 18th century, revealing how the knowledge production, a seemingly pure intellectual activity, is shaped by the power relations in the specific time and space. At the same time, Schiebinger's analysis of Linnaeus's bionmial nomenclature shows that, due to the power relation of knowledge, the acceptance of a seemingly neutral scientific language is often not a triumph of knowledge itself, but more like the triumph of a narrative. The book places the historical narrative into its own context and transcends the limit of Eurocentrism, making it to be a good writing reference for current science writing.
