Most people today spend a significant amount of time indoors. In addition to indoor pollutants, outdoor pollutants can also enter indoor spaces through human activities or air currents. As a critical category of environmental pollution, indoor pollutants pose serious risks to human health. Indoor pollutants vary widely and include particulate matter, dust, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide. Prolonged exposure to these pollutants can cause tear film abnormalities, keratitis, nonspecific or allergic conjunctivitis, and even retinal damage. This article examines the relationship between indoor pollutants and ocular damage by reviewing reports on pollutants and eye diseases in databases such as PubMed, Medline, Google Scholar, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). It further analyzes the specific effects of various indoor pollutants on ocular tissues (e.g., tear film, cornea, conjunctiva, lens, and retina), summarizes their potential hazards and toxic mechanisms, and suggests effective strategies to mitigate the risks of ocular exposure.

    Objective

To analyze the epidemiological investigation scenario patterns of respiratory infectious disease outbreaks and design intelligent data collection strategies for different epidemiological investigation data collection objectives.

    Methods

We systematically reviewed and sorted the occurrence scenarios of typical respiratory infectious disease outbreaks in China. Using literature research, focus group interviews, and expert consultations, we summarized the structural and characteristic patterns of epidemiological investigation scenarios for respiratory infectious diseases. Combined with currently used intelligent data collection technologies and tools, we designed intelligent data collection strategies for epidemiological investigations of respiratory infectious disease outbreaks, established intelligent data collection modules for epidemiological investigations, and analyzed and organized the specific collection content and modes of each module.

    Results

Epidemiological investigation scenario patterns of respiratory infectious disease outbreaks include case-based epidemiological investigations and epidemiological investigations of affected sites. Intelligent collection strategies were determined based on the data collection objectives of the epidemiological investigations, including detailed and precise case-based epidemiological investigation data collection for a small number of specific high-risk populations, simple and rapid case-based epidemiological investigation data collection for a large number of unknown risk populations, and epidemiological investigation data collection for affected sites. Seven intelligent data collection modules for epidemiological investigations were established, and a total of 1 012 epidemiological investigation collection variables were organized.

    Conclusions

Based on the transmission scenarios of respiratory infectious disease outbreaks and the data collection objectives of epidemiological investigations under different transmission scenarios, this study proposes targeted intelligent data collection strategies for epidemiological investigations of respiratory infectious disease outbreaks, establishes intelligent collection modules, and determines the collection content and modes, laying the foundation for the design and development of intelligent epidemiological investigation systems.

    Objective

To understand the job competency of community geriatric mental health service personnel in China and its influencing factors, and to provide a reference for actively addressing the mental health problems and needs of the elderly and improving the capacity of primary-level geriatric mental health services.

    Methods

In November 2019, a convenience sampling method was used to recruit 5 806 managers and professionals at all levels engaged in mental health services from 818 communities sampled in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, and municipalities) in China for a questionnaire survey. Latent class analysis (LCA) was used to explore the latent variables of attitudes towards community geriatric mental health services, and a multiple linear regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of job competency among community geriatric mental health service personnel.

    Results

The comprehensive job competency scores of the 5 793 Chinese community geriatric mental health service personnel finally included in the analysis ranged from 0 to 5, with an average score of (2.55±1.08). The LCA results showed that the latent classes of attitudes towards community geriatric mental health services were high identification and high attitude professional group (n=1 531, 26.43%) and low identification and low attitude group (n=4 262, 73.57%). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that compared with men, the average comprehensive job competency score of female community geriatric mental health service personnel increased by 0.109 points (β=0.109, t=3.35, P<0.001); compared with the 18-29 age group, the average comprehensive job competency scores of community geriatric mental health service personnel aged 30–44, 45–59, and ≥60 years decreased by 0.156 points (β= –0.156, t= –3.40, P<0.001), 0.228 points (β= –0.228, t= –4.99, P<0.001), and 0.285 points (β= –0.285, t= –4.57, P<0.001), respectively; compared with those with a high school education or below, the average comprehensive job competency scores of community geriatric mental health service personnel with college, undergraduate, and master's degrees or above increased by 0.185 points (β=0.185, t=4.33, P<0.001), 0.385 points (β=0.385, t=8.83, P<0.001), and 0.518 points (β=0.518, t=6.16, P<0.001), respectively; compared with those with no professional title, the average comprehensive job competency scores of community geriatric mental health service personnel with intermediate and senior professional titles increased by 0.148 points (β=0.148, t=3.75, P<0.001) and 0.177 points (β=0.177, t=2.97, P=0.003), respectively.

    Conclusions

The job competency of community geriatric mental health service personnel in China is relatively low, and age, gender, education level, and professional title are the main influencing factors.

    Objective

To analyze the food intake of primary and middle school students in areas implementing the Rural Compulsory Education Student Nutrition Improvement Program in 2021 and its influencing factors.

    Methods

Following the principle of random sampling, in 2021, in 727 national pilot counties in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) and the Xinjiang Production & Construction Corps, approximately 10% of primary and middle schools were selected in urban and rural areas, respectively. From the third grade of primary school to the third grade of junior high school, one class was selected from each grade, with approximately 40 students per class, equally divided between male and female. Questionnaires were used to collect data on the frequency of food intake among primary and middle school students.

    Results

37.019% of primary and middle school students consumed meat once or more per day; 24.578% consumed one or more eggs per day; only 4.333% consumed 300 mL/d or more of milk; 30.212% consumed fruit once or more per day; 33.352% consumed three or more kinds of vegetables per day; and 10.170% consumed beans once or more per day. Geographic distribution, gender, school level, and left-behind child status were influencing factors for meat, egg, milk, fruit, vegetable, and bean intake among primary and middle school students; boarding status was an influencing factor for meat, milk, fruit, vegetable, and bean intake.

    Conclusions

The proportion of primary and middle school students in areas implementing the Chinese Student Nutrition Improvement Program who met the recommended dietary guidelines for various food groups showed an upward trend, but insufficient intake may still exist. In the future, targeted dietary guidance and nutrition education should be carried out during the further implementation of the Student Nutrition Improvement Program to improve the effectiveness of the program and promote the healthy growth of primary and middle school students in China.

    Objective

To investigate the relationship between maternal gingival bleeding during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental delay in their one-year-old children, and to provide scientific evidence for prenatal and early childhood health care.

    Methods

Based on the Anhui-Wuhu Birth Cohort established by the Wuhu Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Anhui province, 528 mothers and their one-year-old children who had regular prenatal check-ups at the Wuhu Maternal and Child Health Hospital since early pregnancy (<13+6 weeks) and were followed up in December 2022 were included in this study. A self-designed questionnaire, "Maternal and Child Health Questionnaire during Pregnancy and Postpartum", was used to investigate maternal gingival bleeding symptoms during early and mid-pregnancy. The Chinese version of the "Ages and Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition (ASQ-3)" was used to assess the neurodevelopment of one-year-old children. Multivariable unconditional logistic regression models were used to analyze the relationship between maternal gingival bleeding symptoms during pregnancy and neurodevelopmental delay in their one-year-old children.

    Results

A total of 442 mother-child pairs with complete data from early and mid-pregnancy were included in the final analysis, including 229 boys and 213 girls. Among the mothers, 27 (6.10%), 16 (3.62%), and 84 (19.00%) experienced oral bleeding, bleeding when biting hard objects, and bleeding when brushing teeth during early pregnancy, respectively; 45 (10.18%), 26 (5.88%), and 102 (23.08%) experienced the same during mid-pregnancy, respectively. Among the one-year-old children, 201 (45.48%), 54 (12.22%), 85 (19.23%), 79 (17.87%), 66 (14.93%), and 88 (19.91%) experienced overall neurodevelopmental delay, communication delay, gross motor delay, fine motor delay, problem-solving delay, and personal-social delay, respectively. After adjusting for confounding factors, including maternal age, education level, annual household income, pre-pregnancy body mass index, primiparity status at the time of prenatal follow-up, history of cesarean section, passive smoking during pregnancy, depression during pregnancy, child's sex, season of birth, mode of delivery, preterm birth, low birth weight, and feeding mode, maternal bleeding when brushing teeth during mid-pregnancy was positively associated with communication delay (OR=2.06, 95%CI: 1.04–4.76) and gross motor delay (OR=2.00, 95%CI: 1.13–3.54) in their one-year-old children. After stratification by sex, maternal oral bleeding in early pregnancy was positively associated with delayed gross motor skill development (OR=4.22, 95%CI: 1.07–16.63), fine motor skill development (OR=5.99, 95%CI: 1.35–26.57) in boys, and delayed problem-solving skill development (OR=3.49, 95%CI: 1.35–14.93) in girls. Maternal bleeding when biting hard objects in early pregnancy (OR=8.27, 95%CI: 1.44–47.56) and bleeding when brushing teeth (OR=3.97, 95%CI: 1.55–10.17) were both positively associated with delayed gross motor skill development in boys. Maternal bleeding when biting hard objects in mid-pregnancy was positively associated with delayed gross motor skill development (OR=4.85, 95%CI: 1.05–22.49) in boys, and maternal bleeding when brushing teeth in mid-pregnancy was positively associated with delayed gross motor skill development (OR=3.42, 95%CI: 1.41–8.27) and communication skill development (OR=2.93, 95%CI: –1.08–7.98) in boys.

    Conclusion

Maternal gingival bleeding during pregnancy is a risk factor for neurodevelopmental delay in their one-year-old children and is related to gender. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the level of oral health care services for pregnant women.
