Science fiction film and television works connect society, science and technology and culture through their unique medium, reflecting a nation's filmmaking industry and its capacity for future-oriented imagination. In its screen adaptation, Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem faced significant challenges in cross-cultural communication and value translation. Both TV adaptations successfully navigated these issues through cross-media strategies, preserving the core philosophical themes while making adjustments for the global market to enhance their international appeal. The Tencent version prioritized the faithful recreation of the novel's philosophical depth and cultural origins, whereas the Netflix version achieved international reach with a global perspective and a fast-paced narrative, thereby expanding the cultural influence and commercial value of the The Three-Body Problem IP. The adaptation of The Three-Body Problem not only demonstrates the global potential of Chinese sci-fi but also offers key insights for cross-media adaptation and international communication.
