More than a decade has passed since the resurgence of interest in natural history began in 2014. In today's society, ecological thinking has taken root in people's minds, and their understanding of natural history and perception of nature have evolved. As a result, it is necessary to re-examine the current state of natural history publishing to meet future developmental needs. The Pingshan Natural History Book Award is China's first specialized award dedicated to natural history books. By analyzing the grading and categorization of winning titles from 2022 to 2024, combined with data from OpenBook and Douban, the shortcomings in current publishing practices become evident. It is worthwhile to regard natural history as a platform for cultural or even intellectual integration. By addressing these shortcomings and considering the future of natural history publishing from both cultural and policy perspectives, the publishing industry can contribute to the construction of ecological civilization.
