Objective:

To explore the effect of electroacupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation on skin barrier function in patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (AD) of blood deficiency and wind dryness type.

Method:

Selected from April 2020 to October 2024, The case data of 96 AD patients admitted to the acupuncture and moxibustion and Massage Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University were selected, they were randomly divided into two groups, with 48 cases in each group. The control group received Western medicine treatment, while the observation group received electroacupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicine fumigation treatment. The SCORAD score, skin barrier function indicators, immune function treatment before and after treatment were compared between the two groups, and the clinical efficacy and recurrence rate after 6 months of follow-up and adverse reaction incidence rate were also compared.

Result:

After treatment, the water content, sebum content, and interleukin-2 (IL-2) in the stratum corneum of both groups were significantly increased compared to before treatment (P < 0.05). SCORAD scores, transcutaneous water loss (TEWL), eosinophils (EOS), serum immunoglobulin E (IgE), and interleukin-4 (IL-4) were significantly reduced compared to before treatment (P <0.05), and the improvement was more significant in the observation group (P < 0.05). In terms of treatment efficiency, 97.92% in the observation group was significantly better than 81.25% in the control group (P < 0.05) ; The therapeutic effect efficiency was better in the observation group at 97.92% compared to the control group at 81.25% (P <0.05) ; The recurrence rate after 6 months of follow-up was significantly lower in the observation group at 16.67% compared to the control group at 56.25% (P <0.05) ;The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group (4.17%) was lower than that in the control group (16.67%) (P < 0.05).

Conclusion:

The combination of electroacupuncture combined with traditional Chinese medicinal fumigation for treating moderate to severe AD patients with blood deficiency and wind dryness is more effective than using Western medicine alone. It can effectively alleviate symptoms, improve skin barriers, regulate immune function, and prevent recurrence.
