To explore the efficacy of Fuzheng Qufeng Decoction in patients with chronic urticaria, its effects on the Weekly Urticaria Activity Score (UAS7), Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) and immunoglobulin levels. Additionally, it evaluated the decoction's regulatory effects on serum inflammatory factors, chemokines, and immune function.
This prospective study enrolled 211 patients with chronic urticaria treated at our hospital from March 2020 to March 2024. Patients were randomly assigned into a control group (n=106), receiving levocetirizine hydrochloride tablets, and an observation group (n=105), receiving Fuzheng Qufeng Decoction in combination with levocetirizine hydrochloride. Both groups were treated for 4 weeks. UAS7 and DLQI scores were evaluated before and after treatment in both groups. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) symptom scores, serum levels of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, and immune function-related indicators were measured and compared between the two groups. The efficacy and incidence of adverse reactions were statistically analyzed.
After treatment, both the UAS7 and DLQI scores decreased in the observation group and the control group, with median UAS7 and DLQI scores in the observation group being 7.00 and 2.00, respectively, both lower than the control group's 7.50 and 3.00 (P < 0.05). The primary and secondary symptom scores of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) syndromes also decreased in both groups, with the observation group showing significantly lower scores than the control group (P <0.05). Post-treatment, serum levels of IL-17, IL-23, IL-31, IL-33, IFN-γ, TGF-β, CRP, SAA, D-dimer, MCP-1, RANTES, Eotaxin, C5a, and IgE were all lower in the observation group compared to the control group (P <0.05), while serum C3 and C4 levels were higher in the observation group (P <0.05). The total treatment efficacy rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group. The total incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05).
Fuzheng Qufeng Decoction significantly improved clinical symptoms, reduced UAS7 and DLQI scores, lowered serum levels of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, enhanced immune function, and demonstrated high safety with fewer adverse reactions. It holds substantial clinical value for treating chronic urticaria.
