Objective:

To evaluate the effect of telerehabilitation system in ward extension training of stroke patients using the international classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF) core sets for stroke.

Method:

Eighty stroke patients were randomly divided into an experimental group (n=40) and a control group (n=40). Both groups received routine rehabilitation treatment. Professional therapists assigned ward extension training content and guidance videos to patients in the experimental group through telerehabilitation system, while patients in the control group were only provided with oral task assignments. The patients were assessed using the Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA), Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA), and the Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36) before and after treatment (20 days) through single-blind design.

Result:

After 20 days of treatment, FMA, MoCA, and SF-36 of the experimental group were significantly improved, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Bodily pain (BP), vitality (VT), social functioning (SF), role emotional (RE), and mental health (MH) dimensions of SF-36 in the control group were not significantly improved (P>0.05), while other scores were significantly improved, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The scores of FMA, physical functioning (PF), and role physical (RP) in SF-36 of the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05).

Conclusion:

The telerehabilitation system can improve physical motor function, cognitive function and quality of life in ward extension training of stroke patients.
