Cyanobacteria are an important source of novel chemical structures and bioactive lead compounds. A new anabaenopeptin, okeanopeptin A (1), was isolated from the culture products of a new genus of marine cyanobacterium Okeanomitos corallinicola. Its planar structure and absolute configuration were elucidated through extensive spectroscopic analysis including NMR and HRESIMS, as well as chemical derivatization. This compound represents the first reported anabaenopeptin incorporating an N-methylphenylalanine residue. Biological evaluation revealed that okeanopeptin A exhibited weak inhibitory activity against carboxypeptidase A.
