Under the administration of Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Science of Traditional Chinese Medicine (STCM) is a quarterly open access journal established in September 2023 and published by Wolters Kluwer. The journal is supported by the "Excellence Action Plan of 2022 China Science and Technology Journal-- High Starting Point New Journal Project".

Science of Traditional Chinese Medicine aims at reporting the latest scientific research of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and evidence-based medicine. The journal covers all areas of the TCM including chemistry, pharmacology, processing, preparation of Chinese materia medica (natural products) and clinical, evidence-based medicine research of TCM as well as the reports of botany, chemistry, pharmacology, pharmacy, engineering, clinical applications and socioeconomic related to TCM in China and around the world. The main columns are research articles, review articles, experts forum, guidelines & consensus, editorials, etc. It aims to become one of the most internationally influential academic journals in the field of TCM and integrative & complementary medicine.

About Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences

Institute of Chinese Materia Medica, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences (ICMM, CACMS) was established in 1955, as one of the oldest national institutions specially engaged in the research of Chinese materia medica in China. The institute has been designated as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine since 1983.

Professor Youyou TU from the institute has made an outstanding contribution to the discovery of artemisinin, who was honored the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award in 2011, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2015, Warren Alpert Foundation Prize of Medical School of Harvard University in 2015. In 2019, she was honored Medal of the Republic for her important contribution to human health and scientific and technological innovation of traditional Chinese medicine.

Through years of scientific research practice, a research team has been brought up. Their research areas include literature study, identification, chemistry, chemical analysis, processing, preparation, pharmacology, toxicology and R & D of Chinese materia medica. There are 17 research divisions and 1 National Engineering Laboratory of Quality Control Technology of Chinese materia medica . It also has 1 key laboratory designated by Beijing Municipal Scientific and Technological Commission, 2 key research departments, 7 key research subjects and 5 key laboratories designated by National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Resources Center for Chinese Materia Medica，CACMS and Artemisinin Research Center, CACMS are affiliated to the institute.

Postdoctoral, doctoral and master's degree research work has been carried out for subjects of “Chinese Materia Medica" and “Integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine". As WHO Collaborating Center for Traditional Medicine, the institute has carried out international cooperation and talent exchanges with research institutes, universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and international organizations from more than 80 countries and regions globally.
