Less research on this topic has been conducted within China, some theories may not adapt to particularities of the Chinese situation. In general, there are two main categories of methods of science education, i.e., the pedagogue-centered type and the learner-centered type. Our research aims to discuss the rationality and the value of learner-centered education in botanical gardens in China. The effectiveness of learner-centered education was tested using data that were derived from both behavior observation, questionnaires and interview focusing on learners’ reaction.

The science shops originated in in the 1970s and had been developed in many European countries. They differ greatly from the traditional and commercial shops, serve the civil society with new ideas and from the motive of science communication. The science shops use the two-way interactive methods in their science communication projects to support scientific researchers working for the communities with the purpose of broadening their research area and provide the scientific and research service for citizens as well as create the opportunities for university students to understand the society in their practical period, in which all the people involved in the science shops’ projects will gain mutual benefits. From the working mechanism and successful experiences of science shops in Europe, we can draw the inspirations in building our science communication system and network with the support between science and society, in innovating the science communication events and in promoting the public science literacy and enthusiasm engaging in science.
Using the same method in the 6th Investigation on Scientific Literacy of Chinese Public, we obtain basic analysis datum of scientific literacy of Chinese civil officials at county level. At the same time, we finish comparing the data with the scientific literacy of the Civil Officials at Bureau level.
Exhibitions in science & technology museums are considered as one of the intentional forms of science communication, whose results are affected by various factors. From the perspective of communication process, studies on the results of communication influenced by the main body, technique and object of communication are fruitful, which can benefit the effect of exhibitions.
Along with the further research of science communication theories, there is a consensus of the purpose and necessity of science communication. But how to carry on a more valid science communication, that is, the strategy of science communication that urgently needs to be resolved becomes more and more important. Mainly based on the analysis of Christopher Hamlin’s standpoint, the article puts forward a various parties interaction network mode of science communication.
Through the relevant case study both in China and abroad, based on the questionnaires on a limited scale given to the scientists group as communicators, as well as the children and youth group as audiences, this paper analyzes and explores the contents, forms, target, effect and other relevant factors concerning the communication of the scientists to the children and youth with an attempt to giving referential advices with regularity in this aspect.
The article is excerpted from the Report on the Study of the History of American Science Popularization. The term Popular Science appeared around the mid of 19th century. The exact date of its existence still needs further investigation, though. The notion of popular science apparently has close relation with the professionalism and specialization of science. Public understanding of science and science communication became popular in 1980s, but they also derived from an earlier period.
