This article outlines a different view of the changing nature of adult learning in the Internet Era. The old model of learning the warehouse is being replaced by a just-in-time system of information acquisition. The NRC report focuses too heavily on finding missions for existing institutions and pays too little attention to the pervasive changes in information acquisition and adult learning in all areas. An analysis of existing data demonstrates the relative impact of formal and informal learning and points to opportunities for enhanced adult science learning in the future.
This article analyzed program of Children Mural Festival held by Chinese National Children’s Center, and explored the ideas of how to design and implement the science education activities for children. The results showed that: the purpose of science activities is to promote children’s entertaining and learning in informal learning environment developing together, so the activities should focus on children’s psychological and physical developments and consider the informal learning; during the process of science activities, teachers should integrate science with other related disciplines, such as art, literature or history.
CASTIC, the national science fair in China, with twenty years history has great impact on changing the way students study and selecting science talents. The questionnaires and outlines of interview are designed by analyzing the domestic and foreign literature on the independent research project fairs. The results showed that engineering projects accounted for 27% of the total. Most of CASTIC participants selected their research design through a variety of ways such as according to their interests. The results also showed that time, help from researchers and participating in science club influenced the projects success in the CASTIC. Based on the results, this study also proposed some advices for improving the quality of projects.
Science and technology museum (STM) is an important carrier of science popularization in China. However, as public welfare of our society, the healthy development of the STM has always been plagued by the funding problems. Recently, multi-channel input of STM has become a consensus. Scholars have investigated this issue extensively and got some typical viewpoints. This paper reviews the literature on the issues of multi-channel investment funds, summarizes the problems and corresponding solutions, and takes this as a basic reference of understanding of the issues and the related research.
Starting from the basic characteristics of animation & cartoon, combined with the development of domestic animation industry experience, it shows that the overall development of popular science animation industry status and development prospects. China has so far established the mechanism to integrate popular science audio-visual (video and animation) undertaking and commercial industry, therefore it also gives some suggestions on marketlization and professionalization.
Images are not the accessories or decorations any more, and they begin serving the function of delivering me-ssage and spreading viewpoints. Photographing is very popular in China. The technical progress has improved the influnceof images, and the thick eyebrows (captions) and big eyes (images) in all kinds of science publications, including newspapers, magazines, books, and etc. Films, televisions, cartoons can provide people more prosperous visual feast. In the meantime, visualization has weakened the people’s capabilities of knowing the world clearly. In this visual era, analyzing the transmitting properties and studying the transmitting strategies of images are the approaches to explore sc- ience communication.
It analyzes some common problems of popular science works in China, such as lack of innovation in content, simple presentation, far to meet the needs of various users, inappropriate media application, the inadequate and insu-fficient industrial chain, incomplete knowledge, and so on. It is very clear that changing the concept of digital science is the key issue for the digital publishing industry to focus on. At the same, it gives some effective measures and appr-oaches in terms of standardization, visualization and getting topics.
The science museums in US share a rich source of funding. The self-employed income, public funding (federal, state and local), and the donations (corporate, foundation or individual) ties the three major sources of funding for the museum. The recent financial crisis hit the museum of arts and humanities seriously, while the impact on science museum is not serious.
