Latest ArticlesCurrently there exists a common problem of permanent exhibitions in science centers in China, which is most exhibition are quite the same, lack of innovation. This problem seriously affected the level of exhibition improvement and educational function in science centers in China. Three actions need to been taken to change this current situation. The first one is to break the old design style of exhibit oriented. The second one is to understand the exhibition theme correctly, then extract and show it exactly. The third one is to follow design process systematically and focus on the basic research, overall planning and quality of design content.
Many factors contribute to students' scientific literacy. This paper aims to analyze the influence of national culture on student's scientific literacy, by theoretical exploration as well as a case study based both on traditional Chinese culture and western culture.
The primary and middle schools are the official venues for formal science education with textbooks playing a key role in the process of teaching. The Commercial Press (Shang Wu Yin Shu Guan) was the first publishing house in publishing and distributing science textbooks in China since late Qing Dynasty. A group of famous scholars and researchers had made contribution to translate and edit the science textbooks from UK, US and Japan. It has made an extraordinary contribution in science education from late Qing through the founding of People's Republic of China in 1949.
The educational concepts of world leading science and technology museums remain basically consistent, which is an ideological system naturally formed and constantly enriched by the founders and the experts of the science and technology museums, with the core of an advanced educational thought based on openness and public. The educational concepts include hands-on operation, first-hand experience, interaction and so forth, all focus on free choice and autonomous learning. Education based on permanent exhibitions is in well accord with the concepts above and therefore has become a landmark and uppermost educational form. These fundamental educational concepts should be adhered to education based on permanent exhibitions for science and technology museums.
Studies have shown that more and more Chinese people are facing enormous psychological pressure with the rapid economic development, and the public mental health is poor. So the issue of mental health has increasingly been much concerned. This study attempts to introduce the concept of Mental Health Literacy and the related research done in China and beyond. It put forward to set up an assessment system of Mental Health Literacy which is suitable for Chinese citizen. Based on social surveys research, some policy suggestions have been made to promote the Chinese public mental health.
While the understanding of science popularization varies to science communication, the understanding of Civil Scientific Literacy varies from qualitative researches, via quantitative researches, to the conjunction of qualitative and quantitative researches, which is accommodated to the three dimensions of science communication——contents, methods, and objects. It is imperative that we should seek specific ways of conjunction in the practice of science communication.
Museum has a close and direct connection with the public. This article tries to compare the management system, the funding sources, the public service between the museums in China and American. It also analyzes the problems happen to Chinese museum. By a comparative study, we could learn from the American experience which is a big help for the development of Chinese museums.
Based on media frame theory, reports from Renmin Daily and Asahi Shimbun on science of climate change are analyzed. All the samples are published during the Conference of the Parties of UNFCCC. According to the List of Frame designed by Tankard in 2001, the titles, pictures including charts and tables, resources and quotations of the samples are analyzed. Themes of the reports and the science knowledge from the reports are also analyzed.
A study on implant pattern is the important part of Chinese social focal issues and science popularization. The text puts forward three major patterns of science popularization implanted in social focal issues, which are politics implanted, connection implanted and cognition implanted on the base of social capital theory and science communication theory.
