ArchiveThis paper advances the necessity of changing the economic growth pattern by analysis of the drawbacks of the traditional pattern of economic growth to keep up with the times. It illustrates connotative development style that requests for high level of scientific literacy of the general public, and the relationship between enhancing the public science literacy and the economic developing style. The authors also argue that we should capitalize on improving the national scientific literacy in the process of changing the growth pattern to strengthen the innovative capacity and momentum of development, and spread them nationwide. It is also necessary to carry out the scientific outlook on development in order to fulfill sustainable, stable and rapid development of the economic society.
With focus on the measurement of public scientific literacy, the structure of Miller's system has developed from original three-dimension to two-dimension in practice and even to single dimension of scientific knowledge, which reflected the idea of Miller's system, the traditional scientific concept and “public deficit” on public understanding of science.
From the view of the “last mile”—— which means to change the traditional view of up-side-down to the view of bottom-up, this paper discusses the content construction of science popularization work in community of Beijing. First, the paper characterizes about several aspects of content construction of science popularization work in community which include basic content structure, content change rate, content resource and people working for content in the community. Second, the paper analyses the problems existing in the content construction of science popularization work in community, which shows the neglect, misunderstanding, shortage of information, internet effect, and staying away from the daily life of citizens are the main reasons. Third, the paper gives some concrete suggestions for the future content construction of science popularization work in community, such as the orientation of content construction in science popularization work, providing easy access to information as subscribing newspapers for every community, providing varied channels and methods, reusing and exploiting the content by taking advantage of recorder, video and internet, setting up mechanism of content sharing and communication between different communities, paying more attention to the needs and expectations of the citizens and inviting them in the evaluation of the content construction of science popularization work in community.
Scientific researchers' blogs don't have obligation to the dissemination of sciences. Nevertheless, we can read lots of contents about sciences in their blogs, which serve to take popular science to the public to a certain extent. What kind of scientific information have those blogs conveyed to the public? And what is the role of their blogs in sciences communication? This paper attempts to answer these questions by analyzing the contents of their blogs and studying the typical cases. Scientific researchers' blogs in ScienceNet.cn are taken for examples in the paper.
This paper mainly studies the biographies of influential scientists in the current domestic market. By filtering out the scientist biographies, the authors selected 50 most influential biographies, made preliminary comprehensive analysis and studies on current Chinese readers' preference to biographies of scientists, and are trying to look into the source of the influences.
The Chinese Progress was a significant publication during the period of the Reform Movement of 1898, which was vital to the reform started by Kang Youwei and Liang Qichao. It had the largest circulation and the hugest impact at the end of Qing dynasty. The Chinese Progress comprises not only Liang's articles, which was named “Liang's themes”, but plenty of translations. The translations split even with the political themes. Moreover, they included a large number of scientific and technological contents, which set the Chinese Progress in a position on propagating science and technology at the end of Qing dynasty, and helped Chinese people broaden their horizon. The Chinese Progress followed closely the progressive trend of science and technology of the time, demonstrated the influence of science and technology on all sides, such as society, medical treatment, agriculture, and so on, which facilitated the advancement of society. the Chinese Progress contributed a lot to “towards oriental spreading” of new science and technology. And now there are already many researches on the Chinese Progress, but most of them focus upon history, news communication and other liberal arts, and fewer upon science and technology. This paper attempts to begin from a cross-discipline perspective of liberal art and science to make an all-round and systematic research on the scientific translation of the Chinese Progress.

In implementing the Outline of Scientific Literacy and based on the extensive education concept, Suzhou Association for Science and Technology established cooperation mechanism in working with local government departments and social institutions, providing more extensive and efficient social resources to improve the youth scientific literacy.

BAAS attaches great importance to the effect evaluation, and conducts a comprehensive evaluation from a variety of angles, by using a variety of methods, in line with its pre-established goals of the extent of the effect of the British Science Festival. This article analyzes the pattern of British Science Festival Summative Evaluation and its inadequate points, and then puts forward some advices for the summative evaluation of the important science popularization activities in China, such as Science and Technology Week, Science Popularization Day.
As an important establishment of popular science education, science and technology museum now faces the challenge of making exploitation of its resources in its operation in order to innovate system and mechanism, create a modern efficient management pattern full of vigor, achieve scientific and sustainable development. Taking Guangxi Science & Technology Museum as an example, this article discusses on the functional orientation, financial guarantee, operating mode, marketing strategy, resource integration, cooperation and exchange of the museum and puts forward some innovative recommendations.
From the view of the history of parapsychology, mysticism is a worldwide phenomenon. So the research on the mysticism prevalence in Russia should be conducted by taking into consideration of the overall situation. The mysticism prevalence in Russia has close relationship with the disassociation of the former Soviet Union, the US-Soviet hegemony and the changes in the pattern of the world as well. This paper exposes all kinds of mysticism in former Soviet Union and Russia and makes some comparative study between them.
