Technological innovation and science popularization are the two wings of innovative development. In the 13th five-year plan for construction of science popularization and cultural innovation, The state clearly proposes to focus on improving the ability of science popularization, as well as to strongly shore up the creation and dissemination of excellent popular science works (including films, micro videos, micro films, animations, etc.). Popular science animation is an important form of popular science creation. Prospering the creation of popular science animation is an important content of the science popularization capacity building. Applying scientific communication theory and animation creation theory, this paper summarizes three characteristics of popular science animation and probes further into its narrative strategy and image building based on the case analysis of a large number of domestic and foreign popular science animation works. It is hoped that the development in the theoretical research and creative practice of popular science animation in China will be promoted.
