Science communication and popularization is an important way for the public to recognize science, understand science and enhance scientific literacy. By choosing the SCI and SSCI databases as data source and using CiteSpace to analyze 1 370 journal articles of science communication and popularization from 1999 to 2018, this paper drew the knowledge maps of the distribution of papers, research subjects, high-cited journals, high-cited authors and high-cited references to show the development context and hot topics. Finally, the author summarized the characteristics and trends from the following aspects: research foundation, research methods and research content, so as to promote the innovation and development of domestic science communication and popularization research in China.
