The popularity of social media such as microblog and WeChat has lowered the threshold for information disseminators, which leads to the bad information disseminated by the new media platforms mixed up with the good, and even results in the widespread of misinformation. Taking Zhang Wuben's health preserving theory as an example, this paper investigates the dissemination process of Zhang's theory on microblog by using the methods of data mining, text analysis, and the qualitative analysis software Nvivo. Moreover, it analyses the comments of the netizens and discovers the existence of “echo chamber effect” during the transmission of such kind of misinformation, and then reveals the transmission mechanism of misinformation in the social media. This study is of certain reference value for the formulation of relevant measures to prevent the spread of misinformation.
