In the initial stage of production for 6# blast furnace in Iron-making Plant of Baotou Steel, the hydraulic clay gun was rotated horizontally when plugging tap hole due to its design defects. In order to ensure the hydraulic clay gun to plug tap hole smoothly, the designed elevation of the top surface for side of in and tap drain was lowered by 250 mm so that the vertical height of it and tap hole center line was 375 mm. As a result, the jet of slag and iron was prolonged when tapping, the impact abrasion of tap drain was intensified and its service time was shortened. The impact abrasion of jet of slag and iron to tap drain was reduced and its service life was prolonged by improving the sizes of its each part so that the goal of reducing the labour intensity and refractory consumption was achieved.
