The development of electric vehicles is crucial for addressing the energy crisis and environmental challenges. To analyze the key technologies and propose innovative directions for advancing new energy vehicles, this paper based on the “Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap 2.0,” provides an overview of the critical technologies and performance metrics of traction motors and motor controllers within electric propulsion systems. By examining the current status and challenges of these systems, the paper forecasts future development trends and proposes innovative directions in motor design, control algorithms, thermal management, and functional safety. These insights aim to contribute to the further development of electric propulsion technologies in China’s new energy vehicle sector.
