Science popularization special-effect films are an important means of science popularization and education work in science popularization venues. They are beloved by the public because of their science popularization form of combining education with entertainment. Chinese science popularization special-effects film industry has seriously lagged behind the foreign industry. This article sorts out the outstanding films awarded by Beijing International Film Festival Science & Technology Section in the last six sessions, analyzes their experience of success and practices, it is found that the pursuit of creative contents and spectacle characterizes the fantastic films. On this basis, it puts forward suggestions on improving the level of Chinese science popularization of special-effect films that establish a standard system at the industry level, follow the principle of high-quality development by film vendors, solve the problem of uneven film quality from the root, enhances the overall competitiveness of the industry, strengthen policy guidance at the national level, innovate the talent training system, lay the talent foundation for industry development, learn advanced experience while developing a film system with Chinese characteristics, aiming to provide useful ideas for the leapfrog development of this industry in China.
