In new media era, grass-root popular science demonstrated a unique phenomenon ofscientific subculture. The article reviewed an amateur author's understandings and experience of grass-root popular science writing. Furthermore, from the perspective of science communication theories. It was argued that popular science should meet requirement of the times, display scientific spirit, and undertake citizen's responsibility. Lastly, some countermeasures were proposed for promoting the development of popular science in the context of new media era.
