Professor Zhang Zhijie is a famous popular science writer and science history scholar. In the early 1990s, as a result of editing fine art books, he began to study art history. Since 1996, he has combined the art history with science history and developed his own research direction. In 2006, he published his masterpiece “Science in Paintings”. This book contains 20 articles, some being adapted from academic papers, some being rewritten to academic forms and published in the journals. Usually the author will explain how he finds a topic from the paintings and other cultural relics, and then write down the unraveling process. The significance of the book is to create a kind of popular science writing mode for those science researchers who are interested in popular science writing. As long as the researcher has a brilliant “pen”, he can write the complicated process of solving a problem, and bring up an interesting popular science article.
