As a significant organization for the sake of improving the interaction between scientists, media and public, science media center plays an increasingly crucial role in science communication and science popularization. Although Japan did not establish its science media center until 2010, SMCJ functions well in a timely and effective manner in Japan. Especially during the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011, SMCJ’s efforts and actions drew widespread attention. The paper analyzes its measures, influence and operation mechanism by collecting data about SMCJ’s reactions in Fukushima nuclear accident.
