Jingli Xie completed his BSc (1995), MSc degree (1998) at Jilin University and studied at Nanjing University with Prof. Qingjin Meng for his PhD (awarded in 2003). He was a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Pingyun Feng at the University of California, Riverside (2003-2004) and with Prof. Anthony G. Wedd at the University of Melbourne (2005-2006). He took an Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (2007-2009, with Prof. Wedd), Monash Research Fellowship (2010-2015, relinquished in 2012), Marie Curie International Incoming Fellowship at the University of Glasgow (2011-2013, with Prof. Leroy Cronin), consecutively. Currently his research focuses on flow chemistry, polyoxometalates and supramolecular science. In his spare time, Jingli enjoys running half-marathon in the XiuHu (ShowLake) Park and watching NBA games (http://xielab.zjxu.edu.cn)
Dongyuan Zhao is Hao-Qing Chair Professor at Fudan University and the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The research goal of his group is the design, synthesis and characterization of new materials. Understanding the unique characteristics of continuous-flow photochemistry will lead to a paradigm shift in the way we enhance sustainability and wellbeing. In this mini-review, we first provide a succinct overview of working principles of this technique and discuss several recent synthetic protocols. Then, emphasis is given to those representative examples which address environmental issues such as indoor air pollutants and water contamination. Finally, recent progress made using this technique to deal with rising CO2 emission, solar energy utilization and biomedical equipment is described. It is believed that this mini-review could inspire more chemists to utilize this technique in their research, either in the academic or industrial field.
